Re: Paulus Hector Mair Memorial Fechtschule Dec. 7-8

Sounds awesome, but even at the $80 price it was too expensive. Definitely too much now :/ I'd like to take a moment to address this. Are you comparing it to typical HEMA events or SCA events? Major HEMA events are usually $50-75 per day. This one is $45. And minor events are around $25 per day. Th...

My schedule is a bit uncertain that far out but I hope to attend. Anything that is mandatory to bring? Sean Sounds good, I don't think I've met you before, so that's a plus. Different classes have different gear requirements - but it's generally just mask and hand protection minimum. As for fightin...

Paulus Hector Mair Memorial Fechtschule Dec. 7-8

Saturday December 7th & Sunday December 8th 10a-6p both days Medford, MA (just outside of Boston) Paulus Hector Mair was executed for his devotion to HEMA. Well, maybe that's an exaggeration. He was executed for embezzling. And he spent a bunch of his ill-gotten money on creating some of the biggest...

I am so bummed out I can't make this. I grew up in the town next door, and one of my childhood friend's husband is one of the people running it. Sigh. It's, unfortunately, a 500 mile drive. :P Hopefully they'll do something in the summer, when I can make a week of it. Longpoint is doing Sabre in MD...

If that doesn't convince you then I understand entirely, but I am curious then, as to what would convince you of the value of such a book. Hmmm a good question ... I guess I would be looking for advice which is specific to SCA, such as which exercises have the most carry over to our fighting style ...

Re: Drills to improve relexes and balance

A variant on the kooshball drill, to make it harder, is to use a Z-ball. But you either toss it against a wall or drop it and catch it after the bounce.

The z-ball is irregularly shaped so it bounces unpredictably.

Re: Fechtschule America 2013! March 15-17th!

Thinking of attending this puppy so I can hang with Christoph; Therion said he'd be doing some messer here. Unlike the European guys, US HEMA seems basically 100% medieval, but if anybody ever wants to do a sabre tourney, I'd be thrilled... Well, I'm running a Sabre tourney in Connecticut two weeks...

Re: Fight with All Your Strength: the Book!

I like the premise of the work. My question is if this book is goigjn to be good for a broken, fat dirty old man like myself (who needs real tools to get healthy and in better shape), or does it assume some measure of fitness already? The chapter(s) on program design will need to reflect this need ...

Re: Fight with All Your Strength: the Book!

The question I would ask is... Why would you not read the book? More information is better. Learn, use adapt. No one book is going to be a perfect fit for everyone. I don't read a single book on the Mongols. I don't read a single book on strength and conditioning. I agree with that reply entirely. ...

Re: Fight with All Your Strength: the Book!

Not really. I talk to plastics manufacturers every day. What we need is not a common-use plastic - unless some other industry needs it, we would have to supply the entire demand.
