gambeson on a 12 c soldier
I really hope you guys can help me figure this out. I am wondering about the clothes and amour of the 12 century soldier. http://www.smb.nu/svenskakrig/medeltida_krigforing/utrustning.asp Look on the second picture from below and the rightmost soldier with a kiteshield. This is how the author depict...

I haven´t read the whole thread but one thing came up in my mind as soon as I saw the gambesonpicture.. it is way to thin to be used in other ways than sparring. A full force blow with a sword on a person wearing that gambeson would suffer severe damage and die. In other words.. that test is mislea...

Jehan: Getting one in trade? Indeed sir, it is a gift. Andres: That is fantastic. Peter Johnssons did the whole of medievalism a great favour when he put that drawing together. What kind of buckles, belt tips, chape. etc are you decorating it with? (I see a black buckle in pic 1.) Since I re-enact ...

Eh, it would look better.... on my hip! Very nicely done. Is the lambskin sturdy enough to hold the weight at the cut through points? I've been trying to figure out how to make a nice scabbard for awhile and the choice of leather is part of what is holding me back. Thanks! Under the lambskin ...

REALLY impressive. Do you happen to have a pic of the other side, as well? I've seen three different patterns of how to do this, and I still can't figure it out...but your pic clarified something for me. Everything for you! I however used a quite thick leather. Leather is very expensive here and ca...

My scabbard
Just wanted to show off my new scabbard. I made it around a plywoodcore with a piece of oak at the mouth for the looks and used lambskin for the body and cow leather for the belt. I also glued 3 diamondshaped wooden tiles onto the body before covering it with the lambskin, thus creating a pattern in...

Andres What is the name of the style of helmet? I love the look of it and have been searching for a pattern for something like that for about a month now without success. Would you be willing to share the pattern? So sorry for the late answer, but every year after the "medieval season" I get very t...
