Re: Song dynasty lamellar

Interesting piece you are building. The scale type is first seen during the Han dynasty {206 B.C.–220 A.D.} and does remain in use for some time. This might explain why you are have a image from the film Red Cliff in your armor reference. Though I will state that armor is not historically accurate i...

Looks great. How did you build the helmet? Li GuangMing this figure is about soldier of honor guard, so this "helmet" is so much as for presenting his rank or title. Perhaps I did not ask the question correctly. How did you craft or recreate the hat or helmet? Do you have a pattern? Li GuangMing

Re: A belt for Chinese ancient warrior

HanPiaoJi, I haven't found documentation this belt was only worn by warriors, however it was a well used belts both by the Han people and minorities during the Tang dynasty. Typically this is a utility belt that would carry pouches, knives, flint, or other articles used daily. The more ornate and je...

Re: A belt for Chinese ancient warrior

Baron Alcyoneus, This is a classic belt hook. The tab on the bottom is pushed through the leather much like a rivet. The curved hook, in this example the beast head, is used to hook into holes on the belt. Here is a plate from the book, Anceint Chinese Armour, depicting it's use. http://oldimg.fyjs....

MJBlazek, if you believe the founder's ideas can evolve, allow the guy joining as dwarf to evolve. When I started I was told playing "chinese" would never be allowed. yet dozens of guys in plaid skirts and katanas were running around.

Re: We're Gonna Get Dwarf-Wannabes This Season

SafteyTurtle, I think that is a major part of it. In all the kingdoms I have played I have seen a general disdain for LARP, while I see the SCA as just a "historic" LARP. For a game that was started by hippies in NorCal, who loved King Arthur, Tolkien, and Winnie the Pooh, our game at times take har...

Re: We're Gonna Get Dwarf-Wannabes This Season

Opinions on the subject vastly differ. I would rather have enthusiasm and dedication then sunglass wearing, keyboard slinging warriors. New members can be molded and learn. We recently had a gentleman in our area who played an orc or orgr for years decide to play mongolian. I hope he enjoys the game...

Re: We're Gonna Get Dwarf-Wannabes This Season

I skimmed the surface as much as your theoretical dwarf. The term dwarf, and an actual dwarf in the SCA are far more historically correct then your current "priory". You are casting an argument for something that doesn't exist or you have not experienced, where I see a surf board saint and just doub...

Re: We're Gonna Get Dwarf-Wannabes This Season

MJBlazek, as just to make point of allowing people to have fun and grow, in your Tag you list "Righteous Brother of the Priory of St. Colin the Dude" The term dude was not documented in use until 1883. Further more a quick google-fu of your "priory" shows your patron St holding a surf board. And you...

Ornate representation of "chinese" armour but not historically accurate. it's hard to say that, coz there don't have much historically accuracy to refer. I keep ask craftsman to give me other refer. At least, the helm is refer from history :) There have been several digs in Xi'an, called Chang'an d...

Re: Chinese armor

I notice people with interest in "chinese" armor flock to "mountain scale". While you can find statues and paintings of the stuff, there is no tangible existing pieces in universities or museums. This makes the style very suspect as we can find existing artifacts as far back as the Xia dynasty, 2070...

Re: IWTB a chinese warrior of the han dynasty 206BC–220AD

The golden suit is much more dramatic bordering on farcical when it comes to historic armor for "Chinese". The second suit is also very dramatic but has several historical elements carried over from Tang style armor. The collar and chest plate are quite nice. Armor for the "Chinese" varies greatly d...
