Re: Tent for Sale
Pics of the tent. There is a small rip (~ 3/8") in one of the back door panels. There are also larger tears in one of the sod flaps and at the corner of the awning. I don't think the latter two affect the usability of the tent. The former should be an easy fix if you have spare canvas, or you are wi...

I didn't get a chance to set the tent up this weekend. I'll try to get it up Wednesday. This is the only photo that I found of it.

Tent for Sale
I have a 16X16 Panther Regent pavilion with a fly awning and super ground cloth, poles, ropes, and stakes, plus a bag to hold the rope and stakes in. The tent, awning, and ground cloth are made of 13oz Sunforger canvas. The tent has square dags around the roof edge with dark blue trim. The tent is i...

I have a copy of European & American arms, c.1100-1850. It's not much help for medieval armor, but it has a bunch of nice swords and early firearms.

Re: The "Linen Cuirass"
This is what happens when you let people with no reenactment background take charge of such bold projects. The issues of impracticality that tarnish their endeavors can be endless. It reminds me of Victor Davis Hanson's arguments about archaic hoplite armament; his stance was based almost completel...

Re: Is lacing armor legitimate?
I lace my cuisses, and I have no problems with them. I have had good results with just a double thickness of leather along the edge and no other reinforcement. Lacing the cuisses from top to bottom works much better than bottom to top; if the knot at the bottom comes loose, the lacing tends to stay ...

Europe's Centre around AD 1000 Handbook
Does anyone have a copy of this? I need to get some article names and authors from the handbook's table of contents. Re: Wood Shield Construction
How do you apply the rope & rawhide to the shield? Kinda wondering how the process goes. I usually cut a shallow groove along the edge before covering the shield. Next, I'll glue canvas on to cover the shield, apply gesso, and paint it. Then I drill a series of holes along the edge, one finger widt...

I'm a big fan of 3/8" rope and stitched rawhide on my shields. It's more work, but it looks good and will outlast the shield.

Re: Possible Shipwreck from Kublai Khan's 'Lost Fleet'
According to Japanese legend, two typhoons--known as the Kamikaze--that occurred seven years apart in the 13th century twice saved Japan from Mongol invasion by "destroy[ing] two separate Mongol invasions fleets so large they were not eclipsed until the D-Day landings of World War II," CNN reported...

Re: 14th century heater strapping.
Actually, Gerhard, Kohlmorgen calls the guige strap a Schildfessel. The small tie that Albrecht is wondering about is a small leather cord that is usually in the middle of the shield. Some of his examples have really short cords, which is what led me to think they are for hanging the shield on a wal...

Re: 14th century heater strapping.
The book calls it a Befestigungsriemen, which translates to mounting strap. My German is pretty lousy, but I think it's used to hang the shield on a wall (p 126, last paragraph). Kohlmorgen doesn't say "wall" specifically, but I believe that is the intent.

I think their rules address that, but accidents will happen. I'm not seeing anything that says fighters are "authorized" in any way regarding their competence. Battle of the Nations 4. Dansell, I found this description of the COP, which reads like a auction write-up (and the item was listed by Hermann Historica ). SCHUTZWAFFEN Lot Nr.3641 A coat of plates from Hirschstein Castle at Passau, circa 1350. Preserved fragments of a Gothic coat of plates, consisting of a breastplate with...

Re: What is this chest protection
Dunno what the armour would be called if it's not a version of a COP, but I'm pretty sure the chain over the left shoulder would have the guy's great helm hanging off of it. An extant version is the Hirschstein COP: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_OsBF96doY6k/TYvz-yR6UgI/AAAAAAAAA8Q/0oLtxmC43pg/s...
