WTB Early 15th Century "Princess Leia" French bascinet
I'd like to order the helmet seen behind the crowned figure on this manuscript page: http://manuscriptminiatures.com/4303/9810/ Barred eyeslots, princess leia buns on the sides (are those really big hinges? are they shields to protect the hinges? would love to see a sketch of your interpretation). It'd be fun to do a rattan (with weight guidelines to reflect steel weapons, and formed heads) fight by the same rules but with thrusting.

You get points for strikes with the blade, disarms, going out of bounds, falling, and queue strikes (haft strikes do not count, neither do punches, kicks, etc -- though you can use them, you just don't get points).

(IMCF) Winter Tournament in Montreal: results
Ost du Quebec hosted the third annual winter tournament this weekend, with fighters from all over North America gathering to exercise the ancient skills of armored combat with sword, axe, and mace. IMCF rules were used. In total, 6 5-man teams competed in the main event; additionally, singles coompe...

Having the right armor is important! But while you do not have the appropriate harness, if this is something you want to do, you should start your fitness training. I cannot stress enough how important that is. Here is the workout / training regiment of a Ukranian fighter who placed 4th in singles t...

I ordered two fitted gambesons and a pair of padded chausses. Placed the order on May 16. Two weeks later, they had it going through customs, and by June 25, I had the order in my hands. Communication wasn't a problem, they usually replied to my emails the next day. It might have helped that I speak...

Your work and dedication is pretty incredible. I'll send you $100 on behalf of all the people of California who like armor, care about education, and are pissed that the state is cutting funding. No strings. PM me your mailing address.

Ottarr, sounds like you already know most of what immediately jumps out. Fixing the helmet will be a major step to getting away from generi-viking. I commend you for waring period shoes and leg wraps (how do you keep them up? We've started wrapping from the top, that seems to work better). The poofy...

WTB: spring steel 1460's leg armor
Hi folks, Looking to purchase well fitted, high-end leg armor suitable for a 1460's portrayal and tough enough for Battle of Nations. Case greaves preferred. Willing to pay for quality and timeliness :). May consider professionally case-hardened mild. What are my options here? I'm already aware of I...

Ivan, As far as SCA kits go, that's pretty good. Special kudos for wearing period footwear! Following up on some of my suggestions, one step at a time, will ma...

Re: 14th century mitten gauntlet in statue from Nuremberg?
Galfrid, long time no see! Done with Pittsburgh, then?
I agree, looks significantly later than 1390-1400. At least knowing what statue it is allows us to find out the provenance and how it was dated..
BTW -- getting addicted to effigiesandbrasses.com. Thanks so much for doing this!

14th century mitten gauntlet in statue from Nuremberg?
Jean-Philippe Du Gévaudan shared this image in the BotN team USA facebook group: http://cs5863.userapi.com/u8893537/147298183/x_de11986f.jpg He is looking for more info on it -- someone somewhere is claiming this is a 14th century statue that clearly shows a mitten. Anyone know where this came from ...

You guys must not have enough overlap on your plates. My 18ga stainless plates over a thin (1 layer of batting) gambeson are extremely protective. They do overlap quite a bit though.

I'd like one, with my device. Do you have any ideas about when you'll clear the backlog and how much you'd charge for such a shield?

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?
The intensity gets much higher in big melees and high-stakes tournaments, but yeah, the base level can be much lower because the overall activity is significantly safer. It is to Russian steel fighting as Judo is to MMA :). Judo is also a sport, but it has a lot fewer broken noses... and the judo lu...

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?
Xager -- SCA hits "full force" with target areas from above the knees to the head (no wrists). A single "telling" blow to the head or body is sufficient to defeat an opponent. Shield strikes and wrestling moves are not allowed. I think the one-shot-kill habit is what really tripped up our 1:1 champi...

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?
Ok, two things. 1. You do realize most of the eastern european fighters in BotN are 18-24? And they also do not have 2-10K to spend on armor? Clearly, they manage. Thick gambesons made by hand; lamellar armor that requires little skill (and a lot of time) to put together; a sword can be had for $150...

"Sparrowbeak" sugarloaf -- historical?
I have a helmet quite similar to the one Brion of Bellatrix is wearing in this photo: http://www.inthewest.org/wiki/Brion_of_Bellatrix It's a standard sugarloaf design modified slightly -- unlike a standard sugarloaf, the curve from the top of the helmet to the wearer's chin is not smooth, but has a...

The Berkeley practice (in the Rockridge Bart station parking lot, the far west end) is going to be a better place to meet folks, the SF practice is not very well attended. It happens every Thursday night, starts at 8pm.
