Vinegar will remove the galvanization in 3-4 days, but it will quickly begin to rust on you when you take it out.

Here in Missouri, the rust will form in a matter of hours, but we have high humidity.

You can also take a spent shell casing (9mm works well) and epoxy to the end of the blade. Then dip it in rubber tool dip.
