"I'm a former 2 time Golden Glove qualifier as a heavyweight...." COOL! Once again proving the validity of western boxing as a legitimate martial art!!!! As for the two sword story, i'd accept it as documentation for guys fighting with weapons like that 18-20 inches. To me that sounds believable, ba...

"My personal barometer is...does it relate to fighting, or is it a positive story about service/chivalry/living the dream? if it isn't, I don't want to hear it. It is often used interchangeably with sport fighter. In that case it refers to someone who cares only about winning fights. Not about history, or honor, or chivalry. They care about beating other people and thats it. Often the bad version of stickjock(ie sport fighter) views authenticity as a hinder...

I though the middle ages were 40-60? Oh wait thats just middle aged I agree though how can you _not _ like the Hundred Years War. I mean it's a war that lasted for a century! How cool is that! Except for the end, i tell ya that dang French girl really bugs me. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile....

Glad i'm not upsetting folks "Lets talk about early period people - Ring Tribe for example. I can tell you they are EVERY bit as well researched and presented as any tournament company. These people might look "genricelt" to you, but their knowledge and committment equals or exceeds that of the late...

Nope don't think so. I'm getting "who's attempt at reenactment is more valid in the SCA" Valid meaning acceptable, desireable ectect. If thats not the context why the side by side comparison? One hypothetical person's portrayal is accurate one is not, conclusion is obvious. Both cannot be equal, but...

Who is more valid? You gotta be kidding me? We are literally comparing a plastic generi viking to a walking library of info and accuracy. How is there any question? This is a fundamental problem in the SCA that a guy that has little "incleation" to do anything real, is given as much validity as some...

"should we just give up the effort to fight in a medieval fashion since some people choose to be blatantly inauthentic?" No, we should ban plastic. Rhys has a good point, Much of whats in the books is unuseable in SCA combat. Either because of the one shot kill system, or because it's illegal in SCA combat. SCA guantlets are often huge and bulky, that also hapers alot of techniques. Fun to read, and good to know, pick what you can use. I'll ref...

Let the KOH judge if they have done enough or if the "game" is starting to become a fight. I doubt that anyone even considered that Duke Finvarr might have had any bias last year at the Pas. He's a good ex of who to pic as a KOH at a Pas. IMO he looked like Gandalf in the robe he wore which was extr...

While Asain manuals are valuable resources, i think European manuals are better suited to the study of European combat. Talhoffer's manual, currently titled "Medieval Combat" is avalible at nearly any bookstore. The I33 Codex is also quite neat, but many of us are waiting for a translation. Fiore de...

It's being made by the Cold Steel armory, and is not an exact replica - a few things are changed to meet SCA requirements (eg, no incredibly long points on the sabatons). And it's being made in stai...

"Battering to submission – 4 blows from a one handed weapon, 2 blows from a 2 handed weapon. Thrusts or swings count as one blow. The other option I could see would be to simply set no blow standard and allow the fight to continue until someone yields, or falls to one of the period rules. But this...

While we have a combat format for the Pas, we did not have a theme.
Since it's so close to his feast day, The "Tourney of St. Patrick".
Remember Friday of Gulf Wars 9:00 am (give or take a few minutes)
