Here's one pic I was able to locate - from Soren's Arn website.

The thread on MyArmoury shows a bit of the information Peter and I discussed at length about these possible scabbard suspension solutions while getting things sorted for the props for the Arn movies. Out of that, I developed both a baldric and a belt suspension - both of which were very stable and c...

I'll have to figure out something to make for it, but I know someone who needs to raise funds to walk in the Susan G Komen Chicago 3-Day walk. I'll donate everything I do to that. Is that Heather, or EEEEEElizabeth? I was thinking of one or the other of those two efforts to support... or even split...

Re: CHALLENGE: "Hey, I did this? COOL! I DID THIS!"

This is good, and worthy. But it's easy to issue challenges. Too easy. Put something up for stake. Anything. Haven't I? The extent of my challenge to anyone is to challenge themselves, or be victim to their own fear, their own doubt, their own insecurity, their own comfort. Beyond that, its a perso...

Here's what I'll be trying to do, in conjunction with my friend Chris (Chris-GSMBristol) - he has a burgonet that he needs a new buffe for. I've done nearly no armour work, and neither has he. Here's a partial list of my inspiration to do this: Chris is a friend, and I want to help him out. Halberds...

CHALLENGE: "Hey, I did this? COOL! I DID THIS!"

There is a lot about the Archive that I like, but the element that shines brightest is the very strong element of inspiration and free-flow of support and information. Every day, I find inspiration here. Every day, I learn something from someone here. In honor of this, and inspired myself by the act...

File work can be really simple, or can be a pain in the butt. I'll suggest trying it out on a scrap piece first, just to get the hang of it. A solid piece is easier to work with than a wonky one, so use a padded vice to hold the piece instead of trying to hold it by hand. Sharp files work way, way e...

Good, Hal! That would be a treat to see.

File work can really add a lot to a piece. Example... a piece my wife Shan-Aan made a while back:

Every Roman sword that I have seen has had the pommel peened on. Some have a nice decorative "nut" in place and then peened, but others show nothing more than a peened tang. Thanks! I wasn't sure if the nuts were threaded and then peened - which ensures a nice tight compression fit of the...

Pad- I can't see for certain what you've done here... What it appears is a nut (opposed to bolt) that you've used to compress the plate to the knife. Am I correct? If so, that IS another historic method - earliest use I'm familiar with in Europe is in the 16th C... unless the Romans used it to put s...

The rod on the end of the butt is part of the knife. I was thinking of threading it and tapping the pommell but now I think the silver solder is the way to go. Looks too thin for tapping and having any stability... 3/16 might be pushing it. Perhaps I could show you some pics of my old work? I'm int...

It's a plate or a cap.... on the butt of the knife. You could call it Skip or George, though, if you' prefer... I see the effect you're looking for. There are three ways to achieve it that are period solutions. 1) Make a larger peen, and shape it. 2) Use a thicker piece of stock for the plate, and s...

Victor, if you can make it over for Crossroads In Time, you should. I'd all but give body parts to make it. Alright, that makes sense. Now I just have to see if I can get that to work. Hmm. I may just hem the pouchlet leather, and sew it on the outside. If I use sinew, I can get a good contrast pattern... You learn to work "inside" one face. You glue the pouchlet down, where you want it, and then using a short, or curved needle, and probably a hemostat or something, work from inside the "pouch" through both pieces, to the inside of the "pouchlet" and then back again. Go...

In the one I made, there are 2 pouches and 3 pouchlets.

The pouchlets are sewn to the face of the inner pouch. Had they been sewn through the back, the inner pouch would have been spoiled - unuseable.

Hopefully that helps.
