to clarify - I am pretty aware of WHY this might be so... but I wanted to take a mini-census. The reason is that (of course) my Land Agent buddies are worried about "losing their spot" due to low numbers. But if everyone has low numbers, then probably no one will lose spots. It's my feelin...

Pennsic 39 numbers

Just a curiosity... both Pennsic land agents I am involved with have reported serious drop offs in Pre-regging. The Kingdom of the West has like, 4, while we usually have about 20 by now. My other group (scattered fringies) is also down about 25%. Is this generally true across the board? Or more jus...

come on you know what im asking. if you guys play as though the sides of the head are not covered and, therefore, vulnerable to a spear thrust to you also take shots to the sides and back of the head (below the brow line) that are much lighter than to the top? also, do you accept arrows to the side...

It's one thing to assume a 'stout blow' to the head would stun an armored fighter enough to end a fight, but a thrust to a helmed head? What would that actually do, other than just ring off or maybe push the guy a little if it landed precisely dead-on? Irrelevant, but also why I hate the "armo...

I think they are supposed to get "ridges" or "spikes" of foam on them (1/2" maybe). At least that's what the one that I got hit with last night had. By Duke Fabian. Who does not throw light. I had some trouble distinguishing haft from mace head.

I don't think anyone is advocating that we need full-force, ass-destroying face thrusts--just that they should be stout thrusts thrown with intent that are lighter than those thrown at the rest of the body, I hereby advocate full-force face thrusts that are just EXACTLY as hard as those thrown at t...

wouldn't it be flat? After all, you are not hitting with the striking edge, right? Spear shafts (both rattan and fiberglass) are flexible - and you can kind of thrust "high" and "whip" the shot down. Do not take this as endorsement of the technique. In my experience, the techniq...

Why is it one extreme or the other? In the Middle, it is a good "pop". Not touch. Lighter than body thrust, but not "touch".. I love you guys, but a Middle Kingdom face thrust with a single handed sword is ludicrously light. A two handed spear thrust from you guys is noticeable,...

Re: Touch kills, face thrusts and fiberglass rods

So that I don't get accused of picking on only one side... It's funny to me that the same kingdoms that only want "touch kills" when it comes to thrusting to the face with padded polearms or sword tips are the same kingdoms that advocate and support face shots from high impact fiberglass s...

My helm fits well and my liner and chinstrap won't let my face hit the front of my visor, but I really don't want to be knocked over by a face thrust by any weapon. Getting knocked over is usually too hard. I say &...

I'm not saying a simple touch is the answer, but a "stout" face thrust that you aren't expecting from Sir 18-stone Spear God is one of those things that tends to end the day for a newer fighter. A more experenced fighter might not have been effected nearly as much by the same shot. I've s...

So, a bare touch isn't a kill. A bare touch that moves the head, even just a little, (provided there is actually square contact) is. The rule is "directed touch". And face shots are in general to be taken "lighter" than else where. Which the SEM (or perhaps previous one) has cla...

A fighter with a small shield (obviously) needs to fight a different fight than one with a large shield...controlling distance, timing and footwork to defend the legs. Feints also must be dealt with differently. Yes... what I am disputing is that different = better. You still have to control distan...
