If a talented and successful fighter wins his renown while using a small shield and then, at his fighting peak, transitions to a larger shield (which suffers from the stigma of being "easier" or "less challenging"); even if that fighter wins as many or more bouts and tournaments...

Gotta say though, if someone has been fighting in mins for years, and never got injured, and suddenly gets a broken arm.. I don't think the fault lies with the armor. Maybe he never fought anyone good enough to hit him hard in the forearm? The problem (at least out here) with fighting in minimums i...

I was reading Oakshott interpreting Norse sagas... in at least one case these are 10x10' squares with additional 1' boundaries for being "out".

This is not much smaller than a typical SCA list.

I was taught and am in complete accord with "Don't break your toys." As to data, I am sure ours is flawed. Just in my own case, I have a torn ACL, a broken arm, a chipped tooth, a broken nose and 12 finger breaks that I have suffered in this game that wouldn't be in the data because I wou...

If Count A can hit Sir B in the leg twice within 20 seconds, I would have to assume he would do that *every* fight, vitus system or standard system. If Sir C can hit Duke D in the arm twice within 20 seconds, I would have to assume he would do that *every* fight, vitus system or standard system. In...

Anyone testing this do double-taps? I am thinking to the thigh. Like a reverse-hip snap (or wrap) followed by a regular leg snap. With practice you can hit both shots "hard" with a half-beat between them (instead of a full one). Do two quick (hard) shots to the same spot end the fight? I g...

I have some minor quibbles. First off, I prefer a more probabilistic scale. "What most people consider a 5" to me is very hard to determine. I like to call a '5' a shot which is called good 50% of the time (in your local calibration area) And a 10 is called good ~100% of the time. So now w...

Yeah, fighting centre-boss, you have to connect with the edge (I'm speaking of the defender here) or the boss- active blocking mated to voiding/shifting is key... otherwise, it's easy for your shield to get "tabled"- that is, to be rotated perpendicular to its original position, opening y...

The first, that Knee-fighting is a penalty. It is not. It CAN be, or it can be a boon. Poppycock. If the skill level of the person on his knees is MUCH greater than the one standing, than perhaps it's not TOO much of a penalty. But no one actually gets BETTER on their knees. If they did, they would...
