I never once hit him in the nuts. I struck him stout blows to honorable targets and did so in such a fashion as to defeat him to the point where he acknowledged he was defeated. Funny the comment comes from maeryk. Someone else who's established they have no testicles to risk. Whatever, Animal. A l...

It's borderline impossible to INJURE someone (on purpose) wearing legal SCA armor hitting them in an SCA legal location - at least with a single handed broadsword. Please define injure. I know several people who have received cracked or broken bones in areas the SCA does not require covered. Their ...

I have to agree with Leo on this one. Just because your opponent refuses to fight within the rules does not give you reason to do so as well. It's not against the rules to hit anyone as hard as they want to be hit. It's borderline impossible to INJURE someone (on purpose) wearing legal SCA armor hi...

Shorter breaks between the fights. Battle field knightings are cool, but do them before the fighting, all at once. You don't need every knight and king there at the same time. Having them between the battles was a terrible idea. The fighters got cold and bored. ZOMG yes. Having started in the SCA i...

i dont think i would be able to enjoy the change. to me our sport is about being able to display more skill than the guy(s) in front of you. sneaking up behind them, pushing them down, and magically driving a pretend spear through a helm, all take away from that. Yes that would be bad. But it's not...

The war fighting at Estrella vs. Pennsic - despite 3 significant rule differences (death from behind, dead on the ground, and full head thrust targeting) is really quite similar. One big difference is that you better have a good chinstrap at estrella (I note that Atlantians generally have well strap...

They are also good for knocking people over... but I know you guys don't do that out there. Really? That's an amusing comment. It's a joke, sort of. No dead on the ground east of the rockies, so there is less incentive to just bowl people over. Not saying you guys don't play rough... If you've been...

First I should say that Logan's shield design and strapping is quite interesting.... I would call it 'chicken wing' arm position - I used to use it occasionally when fighting with a 24x24 square (when fighting a wrong-handed, twosword, or great weapon fighter). But the strapping reminded me of a cen...

You can't get knighted in the West without fighting sword and shield... unless you kick ass with a great weapon. I think the weirdest custom/rule is Ansteorra's - being unable to knee walk/maneuver after you have been hit in the leg. I think they are the only Kingdom that has this rule, and I suspec...

Yes, there are a few guys who are not big fans of the low profile thrusting tip. However, they are used by a majority of fighters - knights and unbelted alike - in most tournaments. There are more than a few whom you have to thrust REALLY FREAKING HARD in the body. Now, you have to decide if the guy...

I think all of two battles at Pennsic this year had missiles. One was a big meatgrinder rez battle with rezz points maybe 20 feet from the front, so balance was not an issue. The other one (Helm's deep) was a little messed up if you got near the archers because they could shoot you from a nigh-impre...

If I see someone in a SCA minimum kit, I adjust my shots to reflect that. Don’t break your friends, and we’re all friends on the field. I disagree. I think fighting in minimums is kinda stupid and you deserve what you get. That being said, there are plenty of folks who fight in minimum armor wh...

I agree with the 'medical' definition of excessive; to include concussions not due to bad helmets. The difference between 'light' and 'good' is personal. Only you get to decide when you are bested. Now, there may be some social pressure applied if you are way outside the local norms... However, I su...
