The only limitations to fighting with gauntlets and crossguards are imposed by your imagination.

That being said, if you get badly articulated, or ill-fitting gaunts, it can hamper your game, but so can the wrong basket.

As for whether to bring the nice stuff. I don't know what your lodging situation will be like but John had his Darkwood out there and never had any problems with it. With the utter lack of humidity it actually made maintenance a good deal easier.

If you fence, bring that gear. If you only fight heavy, don't bother. There is still fencing practice there. When I left the schedule was Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 2130ish on the stage at the Boardwalk. Look for a Canadian civilian resembling Henry VIII (John Moran), and a shorter US Navy LtCmdr...

They're just leather rectangles with 2 holes punched in them and sewed down around the edges. You can make them by the dozen in minutes, and dye them whatever color you want.

I've fought in one of their brigandines and am currently waiting for some gauntlets to arrive. The brig was outstanding in its protection and flexibility. I'll let you know on the gauntlets (though I am VERY optimistic).

DVA is absolutely superb to do buisness with. You get exactly what you're told you're going to get quickly and inexpensively. With a couple customizing modifications their torso armor can be made into phenomically ergonomic hidden protection.

They've been online since at least 2001. That's about when I first started looking for swords. KE was one of the first companies I found. Their Landsknecht sword is pretty.
