Depending on how massive these funds are and how much land you have to build on, begin construction on a 14th century home.

I've often said that the most useful tool for a beginner armorer is the sewing machine. Look at flea markets and thrift stores for the old metal-cased battle-axes in art deco colors. It'll cost you $25 or so to get it, $40 or so to tune it, and then you'll have a machine that will sew a marquis ten...

Find someone with sewing skills and you can save money on the gamboised cuisse, as well as being able to go with a simpler uglier body armour that can be covered by a purdy Jupon or tunic, or worn under a gambeson giving you a great infantryman look.

Your idea sounds good and won't be too expensive. You could even go a slight bit earlier and get rid of the studded cuisse and go with gamboised cuisse (with something underneath if you dont want the bruising) and a greathelm (that way you won't have a bargrille). You could make everything you are t...

I've always seen it pointed to the garments under the maille. Maille is heavy enough as it is, and will sometimes slip just from its own weight. As plate defences need to be in just the right place to work properly its better to lace them to the garment through the maille. This will also help hold ...

I spoke with Mad Matt last night about pointing plate over mail. He says one should point it right to the mail but through multiple rings to limit the stress put on the ties and the mail. I believe him since he has had years of working with mail, but would like to hear other people's opinions on this.

I will throw in my good word here as well since this past week seems to have been rough on Drew's reputation. I ordered one of his torsos for my lady to use as a dress form. I think so, it has been years since I was there, all I remember is that it was in Wales and was a recreated village from some pre 16th century time period...give me until the end of the weekend to find out the details.

Re: Places and events in the UK.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes anyway. I'm going to be in England and Wales, maybe Scotland too if I can swing it, visiting family and friends for 5 weeks in December and January. I'm trying to put together a list of all the places I want to visit so I can 'try'...

i've always found throwing it in a thick cotton bag, spraying it with oil and then rolling it around in the bag works fine. the links rubbing against each other handle the de-rusting. Cool, hot long should one roll it around for generally? Should it be done once the maille is very rusted or just li...

Jess your last post is full of facts but is also plauged by your own bias. If you wish to ruin his business that is how, but it may not be 100% honest. Not saying he hasn't screwed up (but neither is he) but your post is not purely fact.

Mail Maintanance

I came across this article on de-rusting chainmaille. http://willscommonplacebook.blogspot.com/2008/04/cleaning-mail.html It walks about play sand working but not leaving a shine. How would this affect blackened maille? Would it cease being black? I figure since it is black it doesn't need to shine....

Pointing Plate Over Mail

I'm curious how one would point plate armour over mail. Would you try and slip arming points from the gambeson through the mail? or does this work http://histvarld.historiska.se/histvarld/draekter/1300sladel/i/harnesk-sned.jpg pointing it straight to the mail?

Nasal Bascinet (non-bretache)

one of the riders looks to have a nasal on his bascinet. It doesn't look like a bretache. Just wondering if people have any other images or facts about such helms.
