agreed. The ring test can be deceptive. I've used a very nice old english anvil that makes more of a pleasing thump, but has a 90% rebound. Much more pleasant than tiiiiiiiiiing, anyway.

depending on what the edges really look like, it's a pretty good deal IMO. Huge dings out of the sides are a deal-breaker, surface rust with no pitting is a nonissue. Really heavy anvils tend to actually be cheaper than you'd think used because hauling them around is a huge pain -- or so I've always...

The first marshal was a non-combatant , the second was a knight. this may or may not make me particularly popular: if you don't fight, you shouldn't marshal. There are other, more helpful ways to serve. I just can't bring myself to agree with this. Fighting doesn't qualify a person to be a marshal,...

They're a little bit heavier in the hand than a dumbbell of equivalent mass. Choose about a step down from whatever you usually use as a dumbbell to start, probably? This is because their center of mass is not usually in line with your wrist and arm when you're using them, so they exert more torque.

you could stick a horizontal handle on the top swage and use it like a struck tool like a flatter.

if you like the idea of custom swages, consider whipping together a guillotine tool. I'm making one that fits in a hardie hole, but presumeably you've got stake holders that would be a better thing.

I would refrain from using any type of tree nut or peanut oil to blacken anything that you intend to sell. You may end up killing your buyer. Not likely. nut allergies are queued to specific proteins, and i'm willing to bet they all denature as the blackening is baked in. additionally, nut oils con...
