I'm not in the market, as i have a lowpro kidney belt already, but i will say that these things frikkin rock. Lightweight, protective, rugged. Unobtrusive under-maille marshal protection, too.

The trivial answer is to Forge It! Perhaps an easier answer would be to throw it into a wood or charcoal fire and let it scale up the surface like a forge would do. You may need to experiment to get the look you like. I would probably go a bit far and then "clean it up" with a wire brush....

Flemish diarists

I'm looking for a webbed copy of the diary of galbert of bruges. Flemish, c. 1140.

Anyone have any leads on where to start looking? Google is linking me out to a bunch of questionable "genealogy" websites, and redacted google books.

well would a modified pole arm with a counterweight specifically made for 1on1 be aloud in events for associations like the SCA provided that you don't make it in such a way that it exceeds the weight limits for polearms, there's no problem. I know of several groups inside the SCA that counterweigh...

The Japanese use a combination of low and high carbon steel this is what made the famous samurai sword (the katana) the ability to cut through an entire human body and most European swords were made of the same type of steel so sorry but i have to side with your prof on this one Troll-o-meter: Orig...

College is not for learning, you can learn there, but the diploma is the prize, don't ever do anything that takes away from your chances of getting it. It's amazing how complex the process is to make a sword with japanese method. It's not surprising how important swords were for them. the migration era swords in northern europe were pretty hard to make, too. then again, smelting\blooming enough iron\steel to make a decent weapon pretty much any ti...

Weren't the late period european swords also made from folded steel? They just didnt make a big deal of it because it wasn't "their soul", and not nearly as useful in combat. "Early period"/Migration era swords were also pattern welded. As it turns out, for basically the same re...

Spray adhesive should work. I used a thick layer of gorilla glue - thick enough that the canvas was actually fully impregnated with resin when dry. This created an easier surface for me to paint on, but YMMV. You will want more than canvas overlaps on the edges of the shield. I drilled holes 3/4&quo...

I know the East allows fiberglass, and I believe the cutoff is 9' Nope, EK limits spear length to 12'. Everyone fights with 9' spears because that's the max at pennsic - but if you come down to 100 minutes, you'll find 12' spears in the mix. they really mess with your range perceptions if you aren'...

I usually just use a tautline hitch. You don't need any extra equipment, and it takes up less space. http://www.westernwaterscanoeclub.org/knots/tautline_hitch.jpg and if you're feeling fancy, you can splice the bitter end back in above the half hitch. Then the knot will never come out. I usually a...
