I prefer hand-cranked forges with *good* blowers. You don't get tired, and your work doesn't burn while you leave the hair dryer on while chatting.
That said, sometimes having a hairdryer on a variac is nice.

Drachenwald. Fighting with you guys was SO. MUCH. FUN. I run with the east kingdom northern army 3rd div, we chatted a few times at war. seriously: Drachenwald spears rocked, unit cohesion was excellent, and having your prince (?) screaming orders from the side in the bridge battles in swedish was ...

Is this what you intended? http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/4014/photonha.th.jpg yup i flipped my anvil too. I think i mean to say 'a mullet of four points elongated palewise': is that correct? If so, it's a fine design, and would be blazoned: Per bend sinister embattled sable and checquy azure a...

heraldry composition question: checky fields?
I am sketching out designs for a potential coat of arms. I like the look of a field chequy azure and argent, but: 1. Given a chequy field, how do you lay a charge on it while following the "no metal on metal/color on color" rule? 2. Given a checquy field, how do you divide a shield while f...

I have seen 12 aimed shots in 30 seconds from a 36-lb recurve, at 20 yards. Nothing scored outside the blue (on a standard SCA target archery target). That archer claims to have done 14. Once. With a crossbow, he can do 8 or 9 in 30 seconds. I don't know the draw weight, but it can be hand-cocked. R...

The ring belt is nonstandard, i had the center pin of my belt buckle rupture the day before: http://hphotos-snc1.fbcdn.net/hs121.snc1/5212_632173956322_16107221_36796177_2025873_n.jpg and just for giggles, this is me two years ago in my first non-loaner armor: http://img21.imagesh...

I have a buddy who's personal best was 5 shots with a mace in one second. That was against a static target though.
As they say in the less kind and gentle parts of the internets: pics, or it didn't happen.

the arab thing for arabs The keffiyeh and agal are, oddly, quite difficult to document. I tried, because it's a great thing to have during general holds in battle, but...couldn't nail it down to earlier than mid-17th c, and even that is hazy. For europeans? Liripipe hoods. Soak one in water, and it...

"purses in pieces" has an illustration of a man on a bench wearing what looks for all the world like one of the nike sack bags (http://tinyurl.com/mmymoa) but without the swoosh.
perhaps it is the one currently being discussed.

jealous here. I've been looking for a chunk suitable for turning into a dane axe. I figure steeling a weld that long will serve as a mark of my competence as a smith - but it's a long way coming. So lets take this in a different direction now; how do you not stink like a total beast during an entire week of fighting in the same gambeson? Or do you simple deal with it? Cyanoacrylates are in use as internal surgical adhesives, and have been for some time now. short-chain copolymers, like the ones found in superglue, are mildly cytotoxic (they kill cells), thus the irritation. For surface injuries, I don't care, but i wouldn't go supergluing your kidneys anytime soo...
