maille sleeve length and forearm protection

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. My best understanding is that, on the whole, 13thc. maille hauberks had full sleeves and, generally, integrated mufflers for hand protection. Tended to be long, split for riding. For the purposes of SCA-grade impressions, armor requirements, and my tendency to repurpose ar...

my understanding of how kong maces are generally made: 1. dremel out the fiddly bits so you have a constant-diameter hole running through the center of the kong toy. Should be <1.25" in diameter. 2. bevel the head of a piece of rattan to a very short taper. 3. apply WD40 or other evaporating lu...

hardened and waterproofed leather, in my experience, feels like wood or plastic. It should be difficult to mark with a fingernail. leather must be tooled before it is hardened, so hardening it post-tooling is the usual way of things. kilkenny often recommends 10:1 water:titebond as a glue hardening ...

Panther makes fantastic gear.

Fall Creek Sutlery makes almost as fantastic gear for much less. Their dyes fade *fast*, though - so in the span of a pennsic, your red tent is going to wind up being pink.

Metal lamellar plates aren't going to crack and bend.

They will require relacing from time to time, and that's where you'll spend most of your maintenance time.

I can stuff all my gear into an army duffel bag. It's carryon sized, so weight limits are a nonissue. The weapons are a different problem; i plan on buying a spear at a war that i have to fly to, and then giving it to the best opponent i cross when I leave. Sidearms are not a big deal, they're small.
