nice to have outside confirmation of my hypothesis. would you use gamboised cuisses as well, or do you find the mail over linen to be sufficient?

My thighs get beat to crap right now - crash pads only.

I am hoping that switching to gamboised cuisses and a hauberk will cut the pain.

The primary reason for this is that I didn't make this setup - so I only have a mild idea as to what I'd be altering, metallurgically speaking. So I'm restricting myself, voluntarily, to cold/mechanical means. sorry to be an ass, but: coldwork can introduce unwanted microstresses and lead to fatigu...

depends on what you mean by "decent price". http://www.kellswood.com/krafts/index.htm make by far the nicest arrows i've come across, but they'll run you a pretty penny. (~$80/dozen, depending on a host of factors).

Try this http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/flat-it/agedage-beneventan/ If you don't want to buy the font there is a test area to 'try' words which you could screen capture and enlarge. Good luck! that's the one i'd found and decided i didn't want to pay $15 for. That solution was what i was going to try...

peculiar question - anyone have latin font faces installed?

Specifically, one that replicates the Beneventan hand.

I'm tooling a belt, suck awfully at calligraphy, and can trace through paper onto leather with a light touch on a tool. Can't find a good font for it though.

As Kilkenny says, wear a coif.

When you reline your helm after it's defunkified, and you've thrown the old foam out, lay a layer of duct tape down first, then glue the padding to that. Next time, stripping it out won't suck as much.

Force=mass*velocity^2. obligatory physics correction: force = mass * acceleration . force only equals mv^2 when a=v^2, and that's absolutely not true during a complex maneuver like bashing someone in the face with a stick. 0.5*mv^2 = Energy, with some qualifications about what kind of energy and fr...

I should point out that *all* wood hafts will eventually break, and, unlike today, such things were considered expendable, and were expected to be replaced. Most extant hafted weapons with surviving hafts have been re-hafted multiple times. This is my grandfather's axe. My father replaced the haft,...

A smith i know, who is getting on in age and lacks power in his arms, has another solution.

He fluxes every heat, and gets every heat up to close to welding heat. Much less force required to move metal

this only works if you're doing hot work, of course.

14th century gents did not, in general, wear trews or trousers. Split hose, almost exclusively.

the bonus is that you can roll them down to your knees when it's hot out.
