whoever hits the other one upside the head first wins, and whoever is an ass is an ass. Who said I don't abide by that? That doesn't mean I cannot regard my honored opponent as a Lady; it is by no means a comment on her competency as a fighter. I shall continue to strive to give the courtesy due a ...

while in armor, fighters don't have a gender. I look at it slightly differently. A woman off the field is a Lady. A woman on the field is a Lady who is trying to "kill" me. nope. fighters are genderless. you aren't a dude, she's not a chick, you are both fighters. whoever hits the other o...

some folks i know who have wooden shields have solved the problems caused by all the lacing holes by rimming the shield with successive layers of metal, rope, and then rawhide - so the rawhide cover is enclosing a thin braided or twisted rope which is resting on a band of metal. I just used rope and...

Re: This rawhide shield edging

but I've learned that while rawhide will form while wet, it doesn't stretch hardly at all. soak it more. rawhide is *plenty* stretchy. I soaked mine for ~12 hours, fully immersed in cool water. But I can't seem to find a way to get it to follow the curves around the edge of the shield without buckl...

I wear a heavy (but one-layer) linen arming tunic, unpadded, over hexpads. Period appearance, targeted modern padding, and breathability. works out pretty well for me, YMMV. I fight with some hard hitting folks and haven't had any body shot issues yet, but i also don't mind getting bruised.

I will look into that.

it's a hoot. the metal squeals when you quench it. the addition of a surfactant ( dish soap) helps keep bubble formation at the metal face down, so you get more efficient heat transfer from the work to the quench.
