Sorry to hear that. I can relate on the hands a little bit, especially when it's cold out. Somebody posted about apple cider vinager a while back as being helpful for arthritis. I gave it a shot and it really seemed to help me. You might want to look into it.

I'm sure this is fairly common knowledge, but for those who have not seen it yet: http://www.wpi.edu/~jforgeng/MeyerIQP/ An interesting bio-mechanical analysis of Joachim Meyers work; " A Thorough Description of the Free, Knightly and Noble Art of Fencing, Showing Various Customary Defenses, Adorned...

Thanks for the replies. It is supposed be 15th C. Around 1480's, kind of a cross between high gothic and Burgundian styles. It is sized for me, 6'1", 195 lbs. Here in Japan I have seen live cutting demonstrations. I believe the center is bamboo (to simulate bone) surrounded by several layers of tatami (rice straw). A double layer of heavy canvas would work really well. Poke holes through it with a dull awl instead of cutting the hole and it should work just swell. You want to separate the weave instead of cutting the threads.

I like to use the "Karate" hand as an example of how to align your swordarm for targeting. For example put down the sword, and form your dominant hand into a karate fist (2nd knuckles forming a knife edge). Then practice slowly throwing shots at a target. Explain that the knife edge of the fist corr...

Actually no, carpal tunnel is caused by repetitive motion. You might be more predisposed to it via your genetic background, but it doesn't cause it.

I used a set of shower knobs as pommels for a matched set of short swords. They are the ones on the showers that only have one knob for both hot/cold adjustment. I sanded off the chrome and found they are solid brass underneath. A little work with a grinder and they look fairly decent and work great.

My new etching technique.

I just tried out an easy way to make repeated etched designs in metal. It requires no artistic ability what so ever and allows repeated etchings that are exactly the same design. I thought about this while trying to figure out how to duplicate artwork for a plaque belt that I am going to make. Find ...

Anybody know what the typical size of the plaques on 14th C belt were? The ones that were worn slung low around the hips. I have seen one for sale that had them at 2" X 2". I'm just trying to find out if that seems to be about right for period.
