Hardest armouring project you ever had?

What the hardest armouring project you have ever attempted? For me I would have to say full-hinged greaves. What a pain in the butt! I spent more time on this then anything else I have ever made in plate. And I’m still not real happy with how it turned out. There are so many complex curves when yo...

When a knight is out of armour, I personally think that they should dress in a manner befitting their station. I had not really though about it much in my early years but do now. I agree, in armour and out they should stand out from the crowd as an example. I find it hard to have respect for someon...

Pattern Use

A question for you all: Do you consider patterns posted on the AA to be intellectual property? Or once we post them its free game to all for what ever use they want? Including using your patterns to make armour throw up on EBAY. In other words making money off your work and creativity. I have posted...

I just finished a pair of these the other day. It's easy, just print it out. Then go 10 by 10 squares on the grid of each pattern and draw a box. Place on a copier and zoom the pattern what ever percentage needed so your box prints out 1X1". Then your pattern is sizzed right and should fit a narrow ...

Ever had your fighter practice shut down by the cops?

I did today. We moved practice from my house to a park about 25 minutes away for the good of the group. We fought there for over a year with no problems, but today some mochi eating a**hole calls the local version of police and complains. Midget police guy shows up on a scooter and basically shuts u...

If you go with 7/8" space between bars and have a center bar running vertically you shoul be fine. Don't forget to allow for a healthy overlap on either side of your face. It works fairly well if you make the outside frame to match your helm first. Then measure for the vertical bar, taking into acco...

Are you being true to your fighting?

It's kind of hard to explain but let me try. The same thing goes for armour, say they wear a 45 lb kit normally but drop down to ...

Pics of nicely done barwork on helms

I found this site and was impressed by the nicely done barwork on their early period helms. I guess you can do a fairly period looking helm with a partial bargrill without it looking like crap.

I use 8-10oz leather on my wrap plates, running the full length of the plate. It works well and makes it easy to pound out the occasional dent right through the leather. For vambraces I use brass cabinet hinges and cut to size. It works well if you cut a notch into either side of the metal so the hi...
