14 gauge rings may hold up well enough. 14 gauge 5/16 stainless rings are STRONG... But heavy.... Here's a tip I heard from someone else. Consider using split rings. They can be used alongside solid punched rings. Not very historical, but easier to go with than making your own riveted or welded. Wou...

PMed. Sent this but its worth mentioning here.... We will be offering over 15 styles of greaves...and when I say 15, about twelve of those are 13th and 14th century designs--all historically documented. Ultimately I expect to offer about 20 types of greaves from basic gutter/shovel greves to accura...

The knee portions has those 'ears' that cover the sides of the knee. To my knowledge it's acceptable for SCA combat. I have a pair and they are protective.

Great. pm sent

Anyone else onboard?

I can look into the possibility of getting sections cut up into 12" by 12" which would be reasonably priced and shipped.

How well does the ss 22 gauge welded (butcher)maille hold up in combat? There's the frodo micro mesh style and the slighter larger size at .210 diameter.

Welding may be strong, but the ring thickness is considerably smaller.

With brass prices through the roof, this might interest some of you guys. Found this guy on craigslist last month when I posted an ad asking for sheet metal scrap. He has the following brass sheets(his stats): 18 ga. - 24" x 48", 5 available $65.00 ea. 20 ga. - 36" x 48", 4 avail...

Imports are hit or miss in quality and depends entirely on what YOU think is good stuff or not.

Beware of eBay unless you have the experience to tell the good from the bad.

Thank God for the archive and the myriad of good armorers to be found here.

FS Knee pads

I have a good pair of white Franklin knee pads(volleyball) for sale - m I paid $20 for them brand new. They've been tried on a couple times, not used in sports or combat. Well padded, would be solid protection, especially for someone with troublesome knees. Slight grease/oil on the surface from putt...

Review - Thumbs up for Tatsuo

Just got my lovely new great helm from William(Tatsuo).

I love it, it's awesome. Very well constructed, he even punched the holes for free. Communication was top notch, well packed and shipped, and included the UPS tracking #.

Would definitely recommend his work, and would buy from him again!

You could go crazy and put a little gas piston under there like on the rear glass of an SUV to hold it up but if the spring pin fails your helmet will fly open Cheers! Keepin your visor up

I got this fairly nice sallet not too long ago. There is a pin to keep the visor locked down, however, keeping the visor up is an issue. I can slide it all the way up(which requires a little force), but the rivets are a bit too tight, and there's nothing to keep it up on top of the helm. Any suggest...

Greaves with rivet post

Is there any historical significance behind this design? m m I just got a pair of these greaves, and I'm contemplating removing the post as it's a bit of an eyesore... But I see the logic in the design. Holding the greave to the lowest knee lame, less separation risk, possible less noise too. Any th...

Hit or miss. Try writing them, ask a few questions, and gauge their response time. If they don't answer emails within a reasonable amount of time, they'll probably have the same delays in making armor.
