Totally off topic... (just making sure nobody thinks I'm suggesting using these over rattan) Has anybody played with these: m They look fun, for say, backyard barbecues when you don't wanna put on armour. Never seen these before, but I think if I had one of the red ones I wouldn't be able to use it...

Amen to that brudda. The problem is the 350lb. man with a barn door who corners my scrawny A**. That's when things get ugly lol. He doesn't terror easily though it irks me it also makes me a better fighter and my bruises appreciate that some of this will be preventable at a later date Often times a...

Just a couple of things I didn't see anybody mention, but I may have missed something. One, it's great that you're learning inside fighting to teach it, but if you're game is outside fighting don't fight inside in tourney untill your inside game catches up with your outside game. Use your footwork, ...

Re: size matters
snip... The peculiar (and to my mind, contradictory) thing is that there are no rules concerning the minimum diameter of the splits in a split rattan pole. Nor cold there be, unless we started with 2.5" thick rattan! Hmmmmm... 2.5" rattan.... Funny you mentioned that... I have a piece of ...

I cut a length off of a sledge hammer handle and cut a notch in either end to fit inside my shield boss and make tabs to bolt it down. I cut enough out to make it slightly inset and balance better. It gives a nice oval grip, adds very little weight, and is strong because it's solid oak. I know it's ...

I've never used a nibbler for armour work, but I used them alot when doing metal buildings and roofing. I thought it was one of the most horrible tools we had on the truck. It left the little cresents of metal everywhere, it was loud, it wore out bits quickly, and you had to be carefull not to get d...

Of course its more work if your blowing thru swords regular like:) There are a couple easy ways to flatten the sides of your rattan so you don't spend quality fightin' time making weapons. The easiest way is to feed it through a bench planer like I do. It's fast and gives me consistent 1 1/4 blanks...

One of the most effective weapons I've seen for a smaller/younger person is a crossbow. There was a lady at Gulf Wars this year who was less than five feet tall and very petite who was one of the most amazing combat archers I have ever seen. She would sneak around and inbetween the larger fighters a...

I think that part of the issue is the difference in weapon use as much as shield use. Most of the cultures you have shown use spears as their primary weapon. The round corners make a good cradle to rest a spear in when linked up in a shield wall while a square corner makes a flat top with nowhere to...
