Re: SCA SAMURAI HELMET FOR SALE!

Ok, its ugly, but it seems to be a very solid and sturdy helmet so here it is up for grabs. Another fighter/armourer wannabee who wanted to be samurai but didn't like the helmet after he finished it and disappeared without keeping up his end of the bargain. The back plates are solidly attached to e...

I generally recoment lamalar for children't armor. The main reason why is that it can grow with them. Find a style that you both like and buy extra plates. When he grows all you have to do is add extra plates.

I use the McDavid Softball Sliding Pads with knee cops rivited to them. I picked up a pair at Sports Athority for about $15 each. They're a little pricy but they're worth it. They wear well under pants and provide some small protection to the shins. Also, because the design they don't move, slip, or...

So when the world does go to shit and all technology is gone, will the SCAdians assemble on the Pennsic field and combine our efforts to build our new Society with all of our spiffy medievally skills? No, not all of us. It's a little too far for some of us. But I could see the large post apocalypti...

FS: Cream and Brown Hand Woven Trim REDUCED! Better pic.

Image

1" wide by ~4 yds long, wool/cotton blend in cream and a kinda mahogany brown color.

Better pic which shows the color more accurately. The first one made it look a bit too orange.

I did a flip through Stone's Glossary (which is a really cool book, and cheap) and found eight extant rigs of Turkish or Persian provenance. Mind you, it was a very quick flip. Only one of them had specific parts that would be called shoulder protection. It's figure 56, p 43. the spalders are very ...

Just a note on lamellar, from experience: Like chainmail It is great armor for piercing or slashing/cutting attacks. Unfortunately not so great for percussive blows or blunt force trauma as is common in the SCA. I disagree completely with this statement. 1. Lamallar is probably the most popular for...

Ask you wife if you can use the change in your pocket to buy a helm. never pay with change, always use paper. toss the change in an opaque white milk jug in the bottom of the closet. in a year, cut it open and buy a helm. you should have about 300-350. Lamalar could be a real neat option. It breaths and moves well for sure, but for the ladies I would recoment putting one of the "Bokolo Breast Plates" underneath. Bokolo's armory makes a three piece articulated chest protector for women based loosely on the churburg brest plate. I know a f...
