another thing to consider is that after time most clear coats start to get a little yellowish, though i don't think is would survive long enough for that to happen in frequently used armour. something I've been wanting to try on armour for a while is Gibbs penetrating oil. I used it on a machete bla...

Yep, it's mislabeled as a greave. Here's a picture of one done up on a mannequin leg with a greave as well. m the geaves are also often labeled as gauntlets, and there are a a number of images of mannequins wearing them as such m If anyone is interested i can start posting progress pics here as i pu...

Maille and plates cuise, what are they hung from?
I'm working on some maille and plates cuise for myself right now and I've noticed that a number of existent ones have a buckle right at the top center point. m that image shows it really well. So, am i correct in assuming that they would be hung from a belt of some sort? does anyone have any images ...

I can get you any pictures you want of my maille and plates, but to the best of my knowledge it's not historically accurate, closely inspired but not true to what we have left now. I've also got a couple good links for online images, I know you don't need them, but I'm sure someone will enjoy them. ...

If there are any metal finishing businesses in your area you could see if any of them wave a large enough tumbler, slide hone, or vibratory cleaning machine. any of those should be able to bring that from where you are to a near mirror finish and wherever in between you'd like. at my shop we'd proba...

To answer your questions Norman, I Overlapped the plates upside down accidentally actually. When i made the upper chest plates i put it together upside down and didn't notice until after it was all together. Instead of dismantling it and reversing all the overlaps i just decided to run with it. As f...

There is a welded seam behind the nasal where i cut out a wedge, so it started out as a bit of a cone, from there i just lightly dished it like any other chunk of steel. i'd say the perf plate moves like a gauge or 2 less than it actually is. Once i had it dished to my liking i screamed and swore fo...

Here's my cut and thrust helmet.
all 16 gauge, with the perf plate powder coated flat black. It's inspired by zishagge and chichak stye helmets.

I've got a great big 6 barreled tumbler that i use for polishing and de-burring at work. I love it. It should be relatively easy to make one, the cement mixer is actually a really good idea. I'd recommend getting the inside rino lined first though, that will make it noticeably quieter and greatly in...

That's exactly what i did. The perf plate has a welded seam under the nasal, then from there i dished it lightly. getting it to fit in the cheek plates was just a matter of cursing and swearing for about 4 hours of fitting, re-shaping, re fitting and so on. once i got it fitting close i had it powder coated flat black, then t...

My new hat and a few other recent projects. lots o pics
Mostly, i really wanted to show off my new hat. I built it for SCA Cut and Thrust. it's 16 gauge throughout and inspired by zischagge and chichak style helms. I wont say it's accurate, but it does have the right feel to it. <a href="http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh259/armourkris/recent%20projec...
