This is what i wear. It started out as a variant from Rainalds demi pattern. Then i added the fingers to it for sidesword. i patterned out the leather fingers, then just cut the finger plates out from 1 1/4 pallet banding and riveted them in place. I dont use any padding in them, and if i get hit sq...

images of existant bucklers
I'm going to be making my Lady a buckler of her own in the near future and figured I'd try and base it off something original, so does anyone have any images of period bucklers? I remember seeing a thread some time ago( a year or two?) that had images of either a reproduction of, or original buckler...

thats how i made my maille an plates armour. a word of advice, if you plan on doing any combat in it be prepared to do a LOT of repairs if you are using butted rings. I'm slowly switching mine over to riveted maille as i make repairs.

how should i go about patterning out a bandless spangen helm
how would you go about paternity out the panels for a bandless spangen helm? My plan so far is to use some pallet banding and knock up a frame like I would for a regular spangen helm, then patten the pannels off that and add however much extra I'd need to make the panels overlap without the bands. i...

historical bazuband question.
I've seen a number of pictures of bauzabands with liners, usuall with an integral mitten or gauntlet attached. the picture shows what i'm talking about better than i can explain. Does anyone know how the liner is mounted in there? is it quilted or just a liner, and does the gauntlet have straps, or ...

AnTir cut and thrust armour regs.
specifically i'm looking for helmet regs, even more specifically what are the requirements regarding perf plate?
I'd like to build myself a cut and thrust helmet, but i'm not sure what kind of hole size or spacing and what gauge of perf plate to make my grill from.

The Underground Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. ISBN 0-8351-1391-4 I found a my copy in a box marked free. It briefly goes over the organization of the army, what all is where, why it was made and all the things that make it unique, then the bulk of the book is large photos. it has lots of...

Power fist brand stuff is rather hit and miss. i got the power fist knock-off of a Whitney punch, it works great, but other people i know have had much less positive experience.. as for the power tools specifically, i'm not sure about all of them, but some are actually other brands rejects that have...

the failures are only happening where i get hit, but after each hit i'll need to replace 4 or 5 rings if it's butted. I've had a few of the riveted rings fail, but they were mostly bad rivets. i have had a few of the rings actually break however. I've experimented with split rings in a few areas. th...

weldeding maille
Is it feasible to weld a relatively small amount of maille with a mig welder? I;m really getting tired of having to do half-way major repairs to my maille and plates after every fight practice. I've experimented with doing repairs with both split rings and riveted, but both drive me absolutely insan...

I use a wax bar, or oil bar, or whatever you want to call it. i made it by melting down some beezwax, then added olive oil and some essential oil to make it smell nice. from there i poured it into a small wooden box, and let it harden. once it's hard it should have shrunk a bit and you can knoce it ...

I built a COP for my little bro, he's a little squishy around the midsection. one of the things i did that i found helped give him a bit of a slimmer profile was to space the rivets closer together the closer to his waist i got, and farther apart the closer i got to the top and bottom. that way if y...

I've powder coated maille before. the problem is that you have to powder coat your rings before assembly. the only reasonable way to do it is to use butted and powder coat opened coils prior to cutting them. works ok for jewlery, but thats about it. if you did a finished piece then it would stick yo...

if you go with powder coating, make sure you sandblast it first. it makes all the difference in the world as far as durability goes. I get free blasting and powder coating through work, and can say from experience that powder coat over a blasted surace is damn near bullet proof, plus you can get it ...

238 plates, 1428 holes punched, and i don't know how many rings later I've finished my new maille and plates armour. I wont claim it's historically accurate, but i will say that it's inspired existent pieces, and i feel it's pretty plausible. coming up next for it is going to be a padded liner that ...

they had greavs similar to that in turkey in the 15-16th century.
take a look here to see one
http://rubens.anu.edu.au/turkey/istanbu ... ndex1.html
they have it listed as an arm guard, but it is a greave. the part that would cover your hand actually should be covering your ankle
