Ecternl hinges are a feature of arms from the second quarter of the 15th cenury onward. Before this the hinges should be inset or integral (al la Chartres) The forming on mid 15th century Italian arms is very similar to those arms made before about 1425. The easiest way to determine the date of a se...

It is based on a specific style of jounsting sallet used at the turn of the 16th century. It is not a soldier's helm.

I'll jump in since I made those. You could indeed to that. It would be perfecty suited to the task and quite easy to set up. There are also more historically accurate (i.e. complicated) ways of doing the hanging of a sword as well. I think it is a great idea --whether on not you use my pieces to do ...

The question of one piece or two is unclear. While the text does say one piece that would be unusual for ridge helmets. Since it is so new, it has probably not been examined by experts on late Roman helmets who might be able to clear up things like this for us. It is located at the Institut für Arc...

I wish my German was better! http://oesterreich.orf.at/tirol/stories/85798/ It clearly falls into the ridge helmet category and apparently dates to the 5th century. Look at those multi-part cheek plates! Here are som...

How user friendly are the shoe patterns? I attempted shoes once, and have done a decent amount of leatherwork, but they turned out terrible. I would probably get the basic one, and the 12th century one as well. There are three different sypes of shoemaking taught. Medieval Shoes teachers lasted con...

dei Liberi (1409) since I happen to own a harness of this period I'm happy to do this.
