I've always wondered if when going to war , the first thing you did was to take your shiney armor off the stand and slap some paint on it to keep it from rusting on the field. It just makes sense. I think that would depend on your social status. Keith descibed himself as non-royal nobility. This im...

What of other pieces of armour (couters, polyens, rebraces, etc...) might have been so covered/painted/blued? Is there evidence? As my research has been in the area of England, I have not searched much on the techniques and styles in the germanic provinces much at all. With as much as I love the sh...

I wanted to be certain prior to posting above because I have read the Churburg text, as well. I asked someone who has handled the piece in the recent past. A quote from the response via private coorespondence: That is what I was hoping you would say. I just wanted to know what your source was.

There are records of painted armour and a couple of surving pieces show traces of having been painted at some point in their lives. Most notably there is the great helm in Nuremburg that many people believe has a brass cross around the occularia. It is, in fact, painted. However this paint was appli...

I'll give it a go on the next one and see how it works. Can anyone document when they first began to use almain rivets? They did it that way for a reason... it is hard to top the way that it was designed, orginally. No matter how much time we think we spend trying to figure things out... they more ...

The best way is to make a cone and push the material around, most likely. No pattern for that, just start pushing in after you form the cone. Work with Doug on it and save yourself some heartache, if you can. Do you REALLY want to put that on an onion top? That ain't gonna look right. My $.02. Oh, t...

I had wondered if using Al was part of the problem but it was handy and I needed something quick for this weekend. So I was in the garage and there was a piece of Al sign out, so I hacked it up and started hammering. G Sign aluminum can be quite hard. try using steel. It shoudl be more satisfying

The auction will run a week and shipping will range anywhere from 39 Cents to $4.05 depending on what method the winner wants. I recommend priority mail with delivery confirmation ($4.05). You could also add insurance to that if you wanted.

Re: Crows Foot Knot

Here are instructions I received from a member of the Knot Tyers Guild. I have not tried tying it yet myself, so I can't verify the instructions. He questioned the use of the term Crow's Foot knot, and indeed the Crows Foot knots in Ashley are not like this one. What is the source for this term? An...
