Teague Family Charity auction #2-- 600 Year old horse bit
I was moved by David Teague's story http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=61897&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 and Inspired by what Jeff and Gewn have done. I have been through cancer with members of my family, (mother, grandmother, even my dog) and I know how devistating it can b...

PS Do you realise we are translating jokes into dead languages? How sad are we... That is one of the things I like best about te Archive. We are all geeking out over 500+ year old minutiae and translating swear words. What could be more fun than that? The good bit is we have the knowledge to do it ...

I teach lasted shoe construction since that is how they made them in the middle ages. Without the lasts simply make sew them up and turn them i...

ergo, if they had enough for a breastplate, then they had enough for a backplate from a seperate bloom True enough at the best bloomeries. The richest clients who ordered the best armour probably did have solid one-piece backplates and the highest Maestros in Milan could probably get blooms enough ...

Alan's conslusion has a great deal of logical sense. Just repeating the concept so I can better remember it: X mass of bloom was acheivable, therefore the mass of the largest single contiguous peices are determined by the largest bloom size achievable. John Jehan de Pelham, esquire and servant of S...

I also assume where it was made is important as many areas were behind large productions of n. italy in quantities and size of the billets produced so this could ...

If so, check out this page. http://www.revivalclothing.com/catpages/talbot/tal_buckles.htm The buckles have a thicker tongue than the one pictured and have a great track record of holding up to combat. I found a diagram on the internet, and it looks like the backplate was made of one large central plate with two smaller extensions attached to the sides, somewhat like several late 15th c Italian backplates from Rhodes. Is this correct? Does having the smaller plates give any movement advantage, or...

So you will be wearing it in the Thirty next year? I'm completely rebuilding my harness and pushig it up about 10 years later. I've spent the evening finishing up the rough work on my cuirass. It is coming along nicely and the fauld is now completely attached. However I discover that I personally d...

I'm in the process of working on te back to my turn of the century cuirass right now. I used S18 as the model but I made it from a single piece. I am attaching the fauld directly rather than using the Italian plackate. Incedentally s18 appears to be a retrofit of a c1370s breastplate into a c1410 cu...

If you are looking for surviving examples you are out of luck. The other problem with this period is that most cuirasses were still covered by surcoats at this time. Germany does begin to show some white armour about the torso within this timeframe and they seem to be leading the rest of the world. ...
