Years ago, I had a conversation with Vesey "Nick" Norman, then master of the Tower of London Armouries, about this very topic. He was emphatic that backplates were worn at this time. That they do not survive is partly due to the high display value that the breastplates have compared to the backplate...

OT--Looking for old version of Photoshop not LE
I recently purchased a new copy of photoshop SC2 to uprgade from my old photoshop 5.0. With the upgrade you need to have a full version liscenced to you. I did not realize it but I have the LE (limited edition) version and Adobe says it is not good enough. My question is does anyone have an old full...

Doug, those are gorgeous. I've had a jones on for rosette arming nails ever since LMS went out of business. I think they are the excuse I've been waiting for to make myself a new coat-of-plates. How easy are the stainless vervelles to peen vs. mild steel rivets of equivalent thickness? Who needs an...

Talbot, those rose headed rivets...do you think the would hold a chin strap to a helmet? If so..how much for just 2? Matt I think they would be fine but I'd buy a couple of extras just in case. I can let you have them for $1.50 each. You can order them by making a "free form payment" at this link. ...

New products--Stainless vervelles and rosette headed rivets!
I now have my larger vervelles in stock in STAINLESS STEEL. These have none of the brittleness problems of the older brass ones and should take any amount of abuse that can be dished out. You can find them here along with my new brass rosette headed rivets . http://talbotsfineaccessories.com/Jewelry...

Another reason for me is the journey I have been on these 23 years in the SCA. For good or bad they have molded me into the man I am. I take my role as knight into my real life. I just presented a paper today which looks at the paralels between modern school leaders and knights. My journey to knight...

My answer would have to be similar to Sir Mord or lorenzo2's answers. I found the SCA in college and have been in it since 1983. I have strong interest in doing late 14th century living history but there is not an active group here in Chicago. There is a sizeable SCA population. Just in case someone...

I bought a set of Talbot's smaller ones (great service, terrific price) but I must say I broke five or six setting them, and six more broke in the first hour of fighting. I guess with my thuggy friends I need something stronger... Cheers Let me know how many you broke and I'll replace them. I'm als...

I hope to be in stock within a few days. As many of you know I am a high school principal. Making vervelles is a sideline for me. To make matters worse I am also working on my doctorate at the same time. The school year has just ended and I found myself in my workshop today pouring bronze for the fi...

I am begining to wonder why I bother ! I was not questioning your honesty. I saw two pieces posted by the same guy, with dates that should be 500+ years apart with similar rivet heads. The second helm was posted on April Fools day. Please try not to take people questioning you about armour personal...

Do both the pieces you have posted recently have the same big green rivets? Maybe it is my imagination. Can we see a closeup of te rivets on the Sallet? Are they owned by the same person? http://www.thadenarmory.com/temp/spangen/DSC03391.JPG http://www.thadenarmory.com/temp/spangen/DSC03395.JPG It s...
