Uhhh Doug? I was under the impression that both the visor and the hat are indeed quite genuine, and what is questioned is their association together. The original barbute has a more acutely pointed bowl - like the point on my sallet Patrick Thaden made, or the Franco-Burgundian sallet in the Vienna...

It is based on an example in the Musee de'l'Armee in Paris. The parts were displayed together for years but have now been taken apart and are now displayed seperatly thought in the same case. The authenticity of the pieces are not beyond question. The above example is an excellent reproduction of th...

Josh, There are extant pieces of leather lamallar armor from the time of the crusades. Yes, I know that in all probability lamallar would have been worn by the Saracins or perhaps Byzantines... Are you talking about pieces that survive to this day? If so, where are they? I would be interested in do...

on the Italian Arms pic I noticed that the right arm only had one lame between the cop and the upper arm, but the left arm had two. Are these from the same suit? why would someone do this? I would think that if the extra lame adds flexibility, if anything it should be on the right or sword arm. The...

The lattice is 14. I tried to find 12 but without buying a whole sheet I could not fin anyone who would part with any. I was initially worried. However, after dishing the panels I relaxed. They were SIGNIFICANTLY harder to dish than the sheet panels had been. It must have something to do with the co...

I made a "Historicaly plausible" visor. Each element of the shape is taken from a different visor to create a new one. My favorite elemet is the droopy nose taken from a swiss visor. The visor was raised from a cone. I just pushed in whatever metal I did not need. Essentially the occularia and the m...

I guess I forgot something! (New Bascinet)
I just finished the visor for by new bascinet. I think I left something out! The protection is amazing but the vision leaves something to be desired! Edmund has someone who can weld stainless. I sent him along the spacers and he will get them welded in place. If this helmet were made from mild or spring steel I would have welded the spacers in place myself. Alas, I cannot weld stainless. Because the bars are so thick and they are riveted with two...

New helm based on Valsgarde 5
I posted this in another thread but I thought I'd put it here since Valsgarde seems to be all the rages these days. It was made in Stainless and brass for Prince Edmund of the Midrealm. I shipped it off to him on Monday. Alth...

What boggles me is the surface texture on the outside, it's too smooth somehow. Worked from the inside in a dishing form? Or ground with a worn out belt at some time? After Patrick finished it, I spent about 30 minutes planishing it this morning. Nothing major-- just some smothing out of rough patc...
