I think leaving the mail off is appropriate depending on status. The fallen at Wisby were probably not high status nobility. They were proabably soldiers. They had what they owned or were issued. There is clear evidence that at that social level shirts of mail were (at least sometimes) not worn bene...

Armour 1410 from Grunwald/Tannenberg

One of my High School students is researching armour from the battle of Grunwald sometimes called Tannenberg in 1410. He is looking for effigies or artistic represnetations made at the time of tha battle that show what the armour might have looked like. My sources are better for England. Does anyone...

Especially if you are using plastic go with contact cement. I like Barge and Master brands. They are made for shoemaking. They really hold. Most modern athletic shoes are held together with this sort of glue. It really works.

I always do this for my SCA combat shields. I use regular heavy white cloth, not canvas, that I get VERY cheaply. I glue it with contact cement. I paint it with House paint. If it ever rips (This is rare) I glue it back down. I have the same canvas on a shield forever. This is the way to go.

The crest above posted by HugoFuchs is on the Von Prankh helm in Vienna. It actually goes ot a 15th century helmet. Although there is a very similar set at Churburg for a great helm. The horns are remarkably simlar but the bottom where it fits onto the helmet is quite different.

Contact cement all the way. If it rips you can glue it back down. Glued down cloth is the only way to go with metal shields. The paint really sticks.
