Another method (though I haven't used it on shields...) is to cut a patch bigger than the ripped area. Glue down the rip, then unravel the edges of the patch for 1/2" or so. Place the patch over the ripped area and saturate with gesso and/or glue and water mix, smoothing the ravelled edges outw...

I had a look at google maps satellite view. I appears they have built a new road over since I was a lad. Check out the "old pass road": about 12 hairpins and a 6 or 7% grade. Back then, Jackson was a small tourist town, catering to Grand Teton, Yellowstone and the ski runs. Now, it's for t...

Ever been there? There's a vicious mountain pass between Victor and Jackson. I wouldn't want to commute in winter. Of course, the glitterati have priced Jackson out of reach of the former locals, so maybe they have improved the road over Teton pass since when I haunted the area. Jackson used to be s...

I've had a fair amount of success with a glair binder (egg white, beaten to break up long protein strands, then let stand. Turn to an almost watery consistency). It, plus a couple of drops of gum arabic, plus pigment make a very nice gouach. I found including the yolk made the paint too greasy for m...

Well that is one way of looking at it. I can tell you that when my lady was Queen she never once considered her Queen's Champion her consort, she always considered me her consort. I guess I am just confused as to why you would feel that the King... or the Queen’s Champion would be upset or insulted by having someone else fight for the Queen on a specific day (Crown Tourney aside). Because when the Queen's Champion fights for the Queen, they are acting in the King's stead i...
