Re: Future of SCA fighting
First, there is no negativity. Simply clearly expressed superiority. Quite akin to how a football team might express superiority within a High School sports environment to other sports (say, for example, the fencing team). Those in the more "dominant" activity (e.g., the one there first, a...

The red on black is awesome. (1) Is there a red belt; and (2) as I enquired first, do I have dibs.
I can wait if necessary, and won't be crushed either way.
Thanks!

Max, what would you like to talk about? I'd love to talk about anything we do in the SCA and it's combat, as long as we don't start a ruckus with it as it gets going. We can talk weapons, construction, technique, system, anything. I'm almost wondering if it's not a "beer" conversation bec...

Re: Full contact sparring with synthetic wasters
What have I learned in the process? That using my techniques I use in the SCA are useless against an armored opponent in a real life fight. To use a lot of the WMA techniques meant for an unarmored opponent against SCA fighters who don't take them makes it useless in an SCA fight. As both of these ...

Awesome! If you'd like a bit of professional insight for the next iteration: (1) What Suzerain said about the titles and such. Trying too hard with the "cool" video editing software. (2) As a promotional video, it doesn't do much promoting. You really need some up-front explanation of what...

It's also not "political" anymore than any other discussion of how the SCA is organized/run, which would mean Max's thread on the census belongs in "political" if this does. Sheesh. There all y'all going again, picking on poor little-old mind's-his-own-business me. Max Von Halst...

At the end of the day, aspire to win greatly. But how can I win greatly if your efforts to "equalize" the fight forestall my opportunity for a come-from-behind (or even from-very-behind) victory? The fight is fun and fair from the outset. Like Chess. If you make moves that lead to a tempo...

That's just really far from what I know our fighters to be. If they do it, it's meant only with the best of intentions. Offense shouldn't be taken where none was given. I guess what I don't understand, even after reading both of your responses, is how someone could truly be offended by an action th...

Like so many others, I absolutely can't stand it when somebody gives up an advantage they well and rightly earned. I do not understand the premise for those who think it enhances your honor by giving away an advantage you *earned*. I believe it is more of an unmeant insult than an honor. You most ce...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
What needs to happen NOW is a change to a true democratic rule. The SCA should make a forum. Only paying members get to register on it. Anyone can make a poll on a new/old policy/rule. If, after a year, if 75% of the votes go one way then it gets made into an official rule. That will help steer the...

If I may suggest, I gained a great deal of control on that since I started using the sword made by Duke Paul, which I intent to model my future ones after. He carves the grip rather aggressively, so that instead of a round grip you have a rather narrow oval, close to the shape of actual sword grips...
