Re: Unto the Combatants of the Thirty
Max - It was truly a joy to work w/ you in the Thirty to gain a couple of captures together. Your selflessness & prowess on the field of honor is nothing short of inspiring. Mayhaps we will get to do it again someday. YIS, Galvyn Galvyn: I would consider the future diminished indeed were we not...

And for my part, though I would have much preferred more of them (the Eastern forces generally much prefer being outnumbered rather than overnumbering), the Midrealm forces also conducted themselves with tremendous courtesy and grace on the field -- fighting hard but fighting friendly. Doug is a truly amazing two-swordsman. And a great gentleman and Knight.
I was quite fortunate to have even just a few lessons in technique from him when I lived up near Nutley a number of years ago.

For the record I was inspired by this thread and squire sven from ansteorra to come out to fighterpractice again here in bjornsborg. It's true, the crafty Atenvelders fired propane cannons with soccer ball ammunition one year. I remember very clearly sometimes dodging the oddest 'ammunition'. It was/is all part of the fun. Another year they wanted to roll hay wagons over us, but we drew the line on that one. Regards Avery Umm......

Yeah, I remember the 3K days. Those numbers from last year are consistent with what I heard as well. There has most definitely been a shift in the nature of the participants. Sometimes I think the SCA folks are outnumbered by thre non-sca types. I describe it as the shift from a large SCA war (it w...

I heard last night that there was an approximate count of 10,000 armoured combatants at Pennsic. That number seems....a bit high. Anyone have an accurate number? There may be 10,000 total folks but I seriously doubt that there are 10,000 armored combatants. The last estimate that I heard for the en...

I took a look at the paid membership numbers on the SCA website under the Treasurer's page and I don't see a significant drop in numbers. If anything, the SCA has been averaging a steady upward trend in membership numbers since 1992. So IF we're seeing significant membership drop offs at the 4, 10,...

Were I you and seeking a motto on my shield, I'd paint a white bar along your diagonal between the blue and ermine (perhaps thusly stretching out your maltese cross a bit) and then paint the motto in the bar.
