Re: Founders offshoot question. Economic impact
I think any estimate on the economic impact of the SCA will have a error of plus or minus 1,000%. Way too many variables to consider and make estimates on. Aaron: No offense, but I don't think you have any valid premise or background with which to make such claims. As a professional engaged in just...

Re: Founders offshoot question. Economic impact
I've done some preliminary analysis assuming sigmoidal (s-curve) membership penetration rates and activity levels. You can see the chart that provides the complete analysis below, but the result is an estimate of $971.6M in direct SCA economic impact since 1966. In short, if we assume the SCA grew f...

Re: Plaque belts for sale.
Ah. So one set of the plaques themselves are the buckle -- with one end having hook clasps and the other the "sloths" into which they clasp? I'm assuming the metal is sufficiently strong that the width of the hooks can handle the stresses/strains of holding up that much weight while walkin...

Re: Plaque belts for sale.
Isabella: To estimate costs for an entire belt, it appears that there's about 2.5" per plaque on a belt (1.5" of the plaque and then 0.5" on each side of a plaque). So how does the belt close? Is there a buckle not visible in the picture? If so, can we assume there isn't the tradition...

Re: Preference in opponents's weapon style?

I severely doubt that a fighter of the skill and caliber of Duke Alaric is unable to measure the force of a blow through cloth. much less get distracted by the extremely low levels of adrenaline put out during a rapier bout. Both myself and my helmet can absolutely attest that his Grace is always p...

Like MacArthur, I have returned (at least a bit)
Apologies for the extended absence, all. The new job down here in Trimaris has literally sucked any and every second of my life for the past year (though I did get to see some of ya, at least, during my two-days-of-Pennsic). Gonna do what I can to be at least a little more archival henceforward (and...

Since I believe Herr Doktor Johnson and his standardizing dictionary weren't for quite a few post-period years, I think all the diversity in language adds a certain authenticity of inaccuracy (there being more a Duke's English and a Baron's English and a Count's English, than *the* King's English, p...

Hey folks! Apologies for being absent from the archive for a few weeks (or longer), but I've been traveling hither, thither, and yon on interviews and such. The good news is that after over a year "between engagements" (euphemism alert), I've finally landed a new gig as the Vice President ...

Zen Warrior/Triplette low-cost helm experiences?
With all the various discussions about low-cost and starter-type helms, I haven't seen alot of talk about the Zen Warrior/Triplette helms.
