Perhaps sacrificing an effegy of a B-2 (an HF shear would do) in a fire of pickle barrels shaped like gothic plate?

IIRC, the 1" will work, but with a lower heat yeild. Try a plumbing supply warehouse, the one near me has got them. A #60 drill bit can de found in any goog (or even some HF) numerical drill index, it's .040. The very small bits are usually available by the dozen from any good industrial supply co.,...

I believe it is an 18th or 19th century tool for a jezzail or similar Islamic tradition flintlock. I own one that is virtualy the same size and shape, including the flaered "chisel" end and thong hole above it. Mine is decorated differently; no piercing, but is 19th century Afghani. From the style o...

Fiberglas pros: My fiberglass spear weighs half a pound LESS than my venerable rattan spear (equal length). It is much easier to target accurately with fiberglass. Fiberglass dosn't go "wonky" in the rafters over the winter. Longevity, my fiberglass pike has been in regular use for at least 13 years...

Re-enacter quality isn't cheap. Dale sells his bronze barreled snaplocks for $650. A brace of snaphaunce holster pistols can set you back as much as $1500 a pair. I'd suggest hitting a major muster as well as getting in touch with the ECWS (as I seee your in the U.K.)I believe used Lancaster Arms mu...

I got good enough to knight using a mace. I use a 32" mace, puts the impact area at the same range as the "sweet spot" on most swords. Maces have many advantages; no flats, extra killing zone(hip), ergonomically efficient (maximum leverage effect), easier than a sword to make look period. Besides, m...

Post a pic if possible and do the burn test as Gwen describes. Brodir, if you're recomending RIT or a similar dye, bad idea. These types of dye have stuff for both protein and cellulose fibers in them and dye neither very well, in addition, the elements inaappropriate to the fiber gradually wear off...

Nice, I've got one I made that has kidex inside thin leather, lined with boiled wool stuffed inside linen canvass. Comfy, SCA legal, and nothing inauthentic is visible or even detectable unless you poke it. Unfortuneatly, the mail is only butted, but now that SoF has his kits in stock, the new one w...

Vinnie's got it right, Total loss of all sensory feed for approximately 5 seconds. I saw the shot comming in, next thing I was standing 6 feet away from where I had been, being VERY confused; no sign of concussion, dizzyness, anything. I fight both heavy and rapier, never had any trouble thrusting light enough, you've just got to TOUCH! your opponent. I use a Zamarano(sp) bated rapier, pretty much the heaviest blade you can use, and rarely strike with any force. I had more trouble controlling lighter blades; the muscle memory insi...

Vallconan, Keep the Makita after you get a B-1; just try manuvering a 4' x 4' sheet of 16 ga. with one hand while working the shear with the other, it's SO! much nicer to toss it on a couple of sawhorses and cut 10 quisses or whatever. I'll resend the pricelist, checked my sent file and I really did...

Ah!, Norman. Serious love/hate with those pages. Love them because they're a great thumbnail referrence and really good for getting a reasonably authentic hilt. Matt, Remember, teaching a shop assistant takes AWAY your productive time. Starting pay should be low and increase when you no longer have to do more than give task lists. I've paid from $5 to $10 US when minimum wage was $4.65. This was under the table luckily fell below declarable levels anyway. A...
