Make them out of layers of thick cardboard white glue them together put a boss or whatever. Destruction without debris and they hold up to a couple of whacks depending on how you block and what you block :D

Remeber that the rules aren't written for the small minority of fighters that are on this board, or the Chivalry, or the guy who is in armor 5+ times a month. Seems the number disagree with you because if you look at most big field battles you will see many more folks just having fun if non historic kits then those having fun in historic kits.

allowing someone to interpret a "rule" makes it not a rule but more like a suggestion. So now the "rules" are whatever the marshal feels like on a given day.
