As more and more material comes to light, as to how the Middle Ages really were, if the SCA does not step up and adopt a higher level of accuracy, it will become obsolete, and abandoned. Wrong but you might go away and that would be ok. I am not wrong. I see it happening as we speak. There are Livi...

Does not mean i and other like me will stop opposing it, or that we will stop hoping that people will put down these unchivalrous tools of murder and assassination and join the rest of us in heroic melee combat. Like 4 on one combat, death from behind and dead on the ground? . oh snap! Don't you ha...

Do you believe that the SCA is, as it states, and educational organization? Or do you believe it to be a party, where people get to dress up and hit each other with sticks? If you believe the first, then you have answered the question as to why it has to change. As more and more material comes to li...

Re: Touch kills, face thrusts and fiberglass rods
i have knocked men out with a jab. hard to say in the ring because of cumulative damage leading to the jabs. in the street ive laid a fair number of men to the earth with jabs/straights. they can be powerful enough to take a man out, but its very rare. they are set up shots for power punches or to ...

It's easy; if when you are stabbing folks that it happens that they make horrible noises when you're hitting them or complain about you hitting to hard EVERYtime. Throw a little lighter. If not you are most likely ok. That being said if you are not wearing armour that will protect from an EXCESSIVE ...

There used to be a rumor at Pennsic you could get dropped on from out of trees, which I thought completely absurd. I made a joke of it for parties, about how I thought I had had the complete Pennsic experience except for, alas, being tree whacked. This got many a laugh, but one day someone listenin...

Edited for actually, proper content. The goal was to create a realistic 16th Century Landsknecht outfit that did not rely on the ubiquitous waffenrock seen on the melee field. Thankfully the early 16th century style in German still had large, voluminous sleeves. I'll break down the basics of the ki...

In the unlikely event I am ever required to dictate such requirements for a crown list I would seriously condsider not allowing shields at all until the finals. At that point I believe the two contestants, having displayed to the populace their mastery of other forms, should be permitted to engage w...
