Re: Positive review (accdntprone)

accdntprone@yahoo.com No website, perhaps someday. The above helm was a messed up top (I was trying to rush and paid for it) sold as a "second". Cosmetic flaws, but still solid and safe for sca. SO I sold it at a reduced price just to get the money I had in steel and rivets back. Well, a little more...

Aww, who wouldn't want there helm to arrive in a pampers box? :P. It was Kaylee (my one year olds) contribution to the transaction lol. Glad you like the helm, thanks for the positive review.

helms and stuff

I have a couple helms for sale. One is a spangen that I made for myself and then decided I wanted something else. The other is a greathelm. The spangen is 14 ga mild steel, blacked, with a 16ga galv. steel butted avintail. The greathelm is kinda an oddball. I only had a bit of 14 ga at the time, so ...

Re: Shield Cover/Face

Didn't have time to closely read all the above, but what I did for my shield is screen print my graphic onto heavy black cloth and then glue it to the shield. As long as your device isn't absurdly complex I could print severl copys of it on chunks of cloth for later shields.

When I do two color hats like this I first blacken the whole thing, then use wire wheel to remove the black from the bands. Takes a solid hour. Im not saying it can't be scratched in sca fighting, just that IMO its way tougher than paint.

Re: mig question

Have used both. Given a choice, mig (as in shielding gas) seems to give me much less spatter, thus requiring less work to pretty up. The flip side is a 110 volt flux core buzz box is MUCH cheaper.

Just an fyi, I posted in case your deal with otto fell through or if somone else needed a helm, it was / is not my intent to compete with Otto for business. Otto is a good guy who does good work, and likely needs the money worse than I do at the moment.

Re: I'm new, but I have an honest question.

Otto does nice stuff. My spangenhelms are still mostly based on a pattern he gave me years ago. Best of luck.If for some reason your deal with otto falls through, I have a, well, call it a factory second spangenhelm I would be happy to let go for about $100 its not bad, I was just rushing it through...

I need some strap leather (enough to strap a couple coat of plates I have plenty of light leather but nothing thick enough for strapping) and either a pair of basket hilts and some rattan or a couple of ready made swords.
