Remind me to kill you and steal your anvil. Bring friends. Partly for the killin. I'm an odd bird, and have it in my head that dyin peacefully in my sleep would be the WORST way to go. If your up for a 5 hour drive, I can help you make your hat. My tools are mostly packed away, but it doesnt take much to make a greathelm. You would have to do most of the work but I could coach you through it.

Re: Spangenhelm for sale
I think this whole thig happens in part because some of us have a bad habit of seeing one small piece of the situation, and dont really back up and look at the whole thing until after its a problem. Thats what happened to me anyway. Its why I now finish a piece before I get paid for it. Otto, nice h...

Re: Spangenhelm for sale
Just an observation, as Otto owes me nothing and the times I have does business with him I got my stuff promptly; Otto has a back log. There is a thread for the discussion of said back log. Which seems to indicate that said thread, and NOT every other thread Otto dares to post on, is the place to ta...

Re: two-part bascinet
rough from the hammer sold basinet halves for a while. Not sure what his current tops are like. I usually do basinets for bigger heads as a 2 piece, smaller ones as a 3 piece. I just find it easier to get the shape I want on the smaller hats by doing 3 piece.

Oddities in armor and t he habits that cause them
Recently finished another spangenhelm. Realized that it, and pretty much every spangenhelm I have ever made has the same flat spot where the right ckeekplate meets the brow band. Some to a greater degree, some lessor, but every damn one has a flat spot in the same place. Never the other side. So cle...

avintail from losthelm
Losthelm made me an avintail. It arrived today. Well made, looks nice, fits the helm its ment for, and as a bonus arrived in a box using a pile of scrap leather as packing. I love the SCA (sometimes anyway) Thanks again dude. You rock.

Re: Bargrill ends, in or out?
Craig,
Agreed. The catch phrase here is "correctly welded". WHile welded bargrills on my spangenhelms is a new thing, I have been doing welded bargrills on my basinets for years. Also "tested to destruction" with a hammer a few times just to be safe. Kinda therapeutic too

Re: Bargrill ends, in or out?
Craig, I have seen many helms in use in the sca with the bars either attached on the inside, or butt welded to a side bar that is itself attached inside the cheekplate. Im not particularly worried about the helms passing, as they have never failed to do so. I am however, interested in making sure Im...

What do you think? Look better riveted outside or welded inside? Any reasons other that cosmetic to choose one way over the other?

Just a basic rattan sword with basket hilt. Not a fan of the bar stock hilts, would rather a plastic or sheet metal hilt. I would think between $60-$75 should get it done.
