Re: Where to buy plates of steel? and any advice you may hav
Also, if you are set on a sugarloaf as your first hat you could purchase a welded top from rough from the hammer or the like and just do the rest of it yourself.

Re: Where to buy plates of steel? and any advice you may hav
Local sheet metal fabrication shop. Mostly they will consider the parts you need to be scrap, so should be pretty cheap. Cutting, I would suggest picking up a jigsaw rather than attempting it with a cold chisel. And lastly, that pattern requires welding. If you want to make a helm that does not requ...

Re: Ice Falcon's Armor stolen from car in Cali
There is a particular flavor of criminal (usually junkies of some sort) who watch hotel parking lots and steal luggage out of cars. Usually they don't have any idea what is actually IN the luggage till after they haul it off. Then they dump whatever they don't think they can sell. I have been doing ...

one of my customers needs a riveted or welded avintail
Subject pretty much covers it, need a riveted or welded mild steel large avintail. The helm its going on will be 27 1/2" around at the brow band (which is where the avintail will attach. Budget is in the ball part of $150, turn around time needs to be under a month so an off the shelf piece would be...

I would pick them up, they are good gauntlets. However I already have gauntlets and can't afford them in any case. I will spread the word however.

I have received a total of 6 pms from you, ranging from the first one back over the summer, to the one you sent today. The last message I sent you (not counting the one that I sent today) was in early January asking you the same question that you just answered, what were your measurements. I am sorr...

as a side note to 1unhorsed-u, I can't resolve this if you do not communicate. I admit I do not know what your situation is, perhaps you don't have access to the internet all the time or something, but very long breaks in communication have been the norm. Now you bring the situation into a public fo...

Re: Wheres accdntprone??????
Thanks for the heads up Austin. 1unhorsed-u, I know this isn't a great excuse, but due to stuff in your life you go off the grid for long periods of time and I get sidetrack with customers who are making more noise. Please remind me of your measurements so that I know which helm is yours and I will ...

Shaping the bar grill a little differently gives support to the full length of the nasal and avoids the "broken nose" look some of the nasals on my earlier helms ended up with. (to clarify, no one got their nose broken, just the nasal kinda bent in the middle where the bar grill curved down and it l...

Not sure how quickly (or even IF to be honest) I can come up with the money, but I would like to pick it up so I can look at and or possibly copy the face. Budget is way tight however. ANyway, if I manage to come up with money before someone else snaps it I'll message ya.

What would the hive mind consider to be a fair price for basic mild steel (16 gage) knee and elbow cops? How about 3 piece articulated knees and elbows?

Re: Zoombang not Legal - Alternatives?
Make a faux coat of plates. Get ultrasued at the local fabric store. (it looks enough like leather to pass the 10 foot rule) rivet plastic plates inside where you need the extra protection (ie kidneys, short ribs, whatever place you find yourself getting hit a lot) put rivets in to suggest the prese...

Oh yeah, I believe that is one of losthelm's avintails. It was galvanized, but my son blackened it (which I rather suspect burned the zinc off)

Re: starter bucket w/ ocular
Vervelles on a norse spangen may not be period. Cotter pins certainly are not. I was going with practical. I believe the period solution was to lace the mail to the helm, or lace the mail to a strip of leather and rivet the strip of leather to the helm. I just got tired of replacing laces all the ti...

Re: starter bucket w/ ocular
Best option is to use varvels (im sure that's spelled wrong, sorry). Several people here on the archive make them. Talbot comes to mind. A do it your self option that looks pretty good is cotter pins. in either case I use 16 gage stainless wire.
