Not exactly armor but .... Period tents
So I need a new tent before Pennsic rolls around again. Requirements are pretty simple, must fit within a 10'x10' square, and be tall enough for me to stand up in. Beyond that I just want it to work (as in be comfortable, not leak, not fall down at the slightest wind, ect.) It would also be nice if ...

SyrValbrand; First, I clearly do not speak for everyone here on the archive. Just myself. That said; It was never my intention to make you feel that you had to defend yourself or your position. Clearly you have had a transaction that you were unhappy with. And it does sound as if you have some reaso...

Re: 3 - 5 ton arbor press?
Iron Dwarf, perhaps I should rephrase. I'm not saying that the results couldn't be achieved with a hydraulic press, I just don't quite know how to pull it off. I'm trying to duplicate something that I have seen in action. That said, if you have to time I would love to know more about how to make a h...

Re: 3 - 5 ton arbor press?
I'm not sure a hydraulic press would do. I'm trying to duplicate something that I saw out at blackbird armory yesterday. They had a 5 ton arbor press with some rather creative tooling being used for dishing. Its not exactly a power hammer, but I was able to dish all 4 panels for a spangen top in abo...

Re: Negative Reveiw on Rough from the Hammer
Kind of ironic that. I have never had anything but positive experiences with rough from the hammer, both when it was owned by Ron Simmons and now with Dave. Did you give him an opportunity to square the deal? (replace, refund or whatever?)

Subject pretty much sums it up. I need an arbor press, and not one of the dinky half ton ones. Suggestions?

MJ, 25" at browline....
Yojimbo, hush.. And yeah, I think I should have raised the middle of that cross up a little. I couldn't just make it longer, as its already as long as the piece of brass that I had. Its got one hell of a glancing surface though

Need holiday cash so I made a helm sale
Blackened mild steel sugarloaf (the top was basically my first attempt at yours bigfredb, cept I blew the sizing) polished mild steel cross, brass rivets. The helm is welded together completely so no worries about a marshal deciding the brass rivets are not legal. 12 gage top, 14 ga face and back. F...

Re: how to pad or what to pad a helm with?
The usual (not always the best) way for sca use is yoga pad (also called smurf hide). Typically held in place by carmet tape or spray adhesive. You can get the yoga pads in black instead of blue if you shop around a bit. There are people here on the archive (I disremember who but Im sure they will c...

Re: so I need an argon bottle...
Ok, did a bit of research as to what is available in my area. The tractor supply in Gaffney does not have welding gas, but the ace hardware does. Just little 20 cf bottles (of 75% argon 25% co2), $19 for exchange. But they could care less if the bottle you are exchanging came from them. So I think w...

so I need an argon bottle...
After using my old flux core welder for WAY to long I have finally upgraded to an actual mig. Need an argon bottle. Where does one find such a thing? How much should it cost? How large a bottle do I need? (My transportation is a Chrysler 300 so I can't haul some ginormous bottle around) Are they lik...

Re: welder question for the hive mind
Schreiber, the only existing 220 outlet in the house is about 65 feet from the shop. It is still an interesting idea though. I can have another 220 outlet ran to under the back window of the house without running afoul of local building code for fairly cheap. That would put it within 12 feet of the ...

welder question for the hive mind
My fateful old Cambell Hausfield flux core 80 has finally given up the ghost. (after almost 20 years of service) I need a welder. Some bullshit local couty codes prevent me from getting 220 into the shop (at least within my budget). I REALLY want to be able to use shielding gas instead of flux core,...
