Re: ShopMonkey's very first hat, own a part of history (auct

Lol I expect he is not done growing. In any event the last couple posts (this one and the helm he made while I was out of town) were both helms that he made for himself.

Spangen w/ brass (auction)

"Norse style spangen with brass bands. Its not actually a real spangen, just a set of 12 gage helm haves welded togeather. The brass and rivets are just for looks. Fits a 23-24" head, might need an avintail if you have a long neck. Bidding starts at $100 (buyer pays $25 shipping in continental US) s...

ShopMonkey's very first hat, own a part of history (auction)

Yep, this is Shopmonkey's very first armor project. Solid if a tad lumpy. It didn't get sold at Pennsic because I had to leave Pennsic after just a couple days :(. Anyway, auction style, bidding starts at $50 (shipping is $25 for fedex in continental US)

Re: back from war

He made this one to fit himself, (22.5" noggin)
Also of note, he is not allowed to use the welder unsupervised so the whole thing including the bar grill is riveted. Ill post another pic after we get an avintail on it. Oh, and see how the little smart ass did a reverse of my usual color scheme? :)

other three helms for sale, free delivery at Pennsic :)

hats.jpg The greathelm is a greathelm, they fit almost anyone with enough padding. The sugarloaf was ment to fit a me size head but I messed up the sizing a tad. Actually it will fit a me sized head (23.5") it just wont fit a me sized nose..... The spangen should be good from 23" to about 24.5" hea...

Re: for sale, delivery at Pennsic

This is the shopmonkey spangen. Its a little rough, but unlike our starter buckets it has a full bar grill and nasal, plus a slatted back. 3/16" round head rivets give it a kinda knobly, gnarly look. I test drove the thing at a fighter practice, it does what a helm is suppose to do. Might be worth a...

Re: Removing rivets sucks sometimes

Yeah that's rough. You could try a hexagonal barbell as an anvil and a dermal tool as a drill, but you still have to watch out for them baby hands. (have a 15 month old myself)

for sale, delivery at Pennsic

I will have one prettied up norse spangen (brass bands, little bit of engraving on the nasal) one greathelm, one shopmonkey spangen, and one sugarloaf. The starter buckets all sold already.

Re: Removing rivets sucks sometimes

I always just center punched the back of the rivet in the middle, then drilled it out with a bit slightly larger than the shank of the rivet.

Re: My Pennsic party hat

Looking for an avintail to add to it if anyone has one handy. Also, the damn ShopMonkey had cut up the metal I had set aside for my helm. I had to jigsaw together and butt weld bits of 14 gage.......

My Pennsic party hat

ANother one day spangen. Came out alright though. Still working on ways of "antiquing" (that's how autocorrect thinks it should be spelled, if it aint right sue LG) metal. This was just heat and a very thin film of (used)motor oil.

Re: padding and chin strapping helms

Perhaps its worth pointing out, I sell a lot of starter buckets. Some of them are to groups who want a loaner hat or the like, but a lot of them are first helms for new fighters. So we are not dealing with stupid or lazy people, just very inexperienced people. White mountain armoury, I would love to...

Re: padding and chin strapping helms

Daknow. First time I needed to pad / chinstrap a helm I bought some smurf hide and figured it out. That said, the question keeps coming up. As the people are paying me for the helm, it would be nice if I could offer them some assistance. With like, pictures and stuff....

flower pot furnace

Anyone here successfully use this "flower pot furnace" to melt brass? (or any other metal?) its SOUNDS easy enough, which makes me rather skeptical. http://www.hotroddisorder.com/p/casting-at-home-making-flower-pot.html In this article he talks about making the furnace to melt alum. but in other art...
