14th century saddle

I'm looking for books/websites with pictures of 14th century European knights saddles. I particularly want to see images showing the shape of the pommel and cantle. Does anyone have pictures or know where online a picture of the Henry V saddle is?

Kit vs. Harness

Is kit really a good term to use when talking about a suit of armour? When I think of kit I think of everything, my spoon, tent, clothes, weapons, everything. Isn't harness a better term for just the armour.

I used lead pommels for a while until the commercial ones where available. I used to cast a large eyed lag bolt into it to attach it to the sword. The one thing to watch out for is that the force put on the pommel with normal use will split out the rattan. I solved this problem by cutting a short pi...

Go to Home Depot and look at the "nail plates". They make them for joining pieces of wood and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and are really cheap. They are galvanized however so I home its for the inside.

If you worried about small bits of plastic somehow flying off and getting in your eye I think you may be a little paranoid. Has this ever happened? I mean I think its so remote of a possiblity that you may want to watch out for falling satalites if your worried about this. I mean, really, we're not ...

I agree with this practice because it does make it more fun for everybody. Another thing I commenly do is allow a greatsword fighter to keep arms after I take them. Its really not much of a fight swinging it with one hand and its easier to injure yourself.

Stainless steel armour with good forming but crappy articulation. Most of the artic is done by loose rivets not by shell articulation. The helms are spun tops. Yes it should hold up well and the pauldens are probably one of the better pieces he makes. Basically its economy stainless armour. Aelric

Non-round bucklers (14th cent europe)

Are all the 14th-15th century bucklers round? I m interested in making a heater shaped buckler for my 14th century harness but all I can find in my books is round ones. Illusions has average bascinets for like $95. Good price for an ok hat. Otherwise go with Truehearth or Baldo for a greathelm. The modified greathelm on Truehearths custom page looks pretty accurate but I dont know how much more it is than the standard.

I think wacky persona stories to make it ok to mix and match is pretty silly. If I were you I'd just try to dress the part of the english gentleman when you want to and dress the part of the moor when you want to. Dont mix and match and dont make up unlikely storys to justify it. Just do what you wa...

You should call Ray and ask him. I know I say some drawings he had made of a very cool norman style nasel kinda like the Wenseslas one with a lot of cool detail. Your call may get him to put it into production. It would at least be worth a call or e-mail.
