Re: Building a Rule Die - Split from Halbard's "Critique My

I've used them at various times to cut as thin as garment weight and as thick as 12-14 oz veg tan.

For veg it helps to moisten the leather before cutting and if it has any hint of rawhide in it... good luck.

Re: Building a Rule Die - Split from Halbard's "Critique My

Transfer your design to the wood.... Use a chisel no thicker than the old hacksaw, bandsaw, high tensile banding you are going to use and tap in a channel to a roughly even depth following your lines. Using as few pieces as possible, bend your bandsaw/hacksaw/banding to match your pattern lines. If ...

Re: Used SCA bascinet for sale

Got the helm today.... It is a wonderfull example of the kind of bascinet that was produced in the 80's... really nice & pointy. Blackened, well loved & taken care of. There's a couple spots that are a lil lumpy but 15 minutes on a helmet ball with a neoprene hammer or hardwood slapper will ...

Re: Stonekeep Auction: Box O Lames $1

Might even get a full sleeve from those mixed with hardened leather.... Now wouldn't that just be ugly mixed with some carved and painted designs and some decorated rivet washers like Clang sells? Hell with only a few extra drill points one could even install a canvas linnen padded liner inside....

You are only cutting fairly thin leather? Wood blocks and old hacksaw blades, a few hours to build and you can knock em out with a mallet.

Re: Used SCA bascinet for sale

I jumped on for 2 reasons.... The style reminds me of the type of bascinet I used to see in the mid 80's around Caid.... nostalgia. It should clean up well and I'll install verveilles, new leathers and if the aventail is in good shape I'll re-attach it. If not I have an extra flat ring Knut I'll tos...

I really appreciate the input the folks in the know have contributed. I'm going to go ahead and get a shirt from them on the basis of weight, durability and the fact that some maille is better than NO maille.

Ugh I don't even have printed checks.... Paypal also offers both buyer and seller some protections.

I will pass then but this helm has amazing potential for the super cheap price you are offering it for... with a aventail no less.
