Re: Early period arm protection design query.
Hit up Al and see if he has any of the old Merc tailor splinted vambraces left. I just picked up some used with matching greaves and they seem to be just the thing you are looking for. He also used to make "Dastana" which are splints connected by chain, kind of a proto bazuband.

He has the 3/4" under "New Items" looks to be the same that Viking Leather carries but much cheaper.

Scott it is a Mild, Cold Roll, steel. I asked Bart when I purchased the Helmet from him. I think I know what the problem is... I started the auction @ $200. Even used this is a $350 helmet and I think worth more because of its history. That and the fact that things are just plain tight for most peop...

I wish I had the cash for that helmet! That and the fact it is a White Mountain Arm...

I know folks who have used them for hidden armour with low profile metal cops riveted onto them. They work but are marginal protection. Funny enough the more period designs seem to work better, Who'd have thought?

Re: Looking for quotes on buying and installing an aventail
The problem is the hinged, opening cheeks. A long aventail may fit over them but then they won't open correctly and getting to the pin would be a huge PITA. A riveted aventail would have to be highly custom modified to cover the back of the helmet, follow under the cheeks, split down the middle and ...
