Samuel... May I point out that this helmet would be perfectly SCA Armoured Combat legal if worn with a gorget? A maille aventail attached to the inside would make it look spiff too. Its just silly that they are charging custom helm prices for a kit helm. True most of the work is in the fitting & finishing but a kit kinda makes that a no brainer for a pro armourer, no? I have been told that if one uses contact cement instead of spray glue it helps the canvass last much longer w/o rips.

Sorry... just found that windrose carries it. So it's apply edge guard.... slather with contact glue... smooth down heavy canvas. Let dry for 24 hours then apply artists spray gesso in even overlapping coats, allowing each coat an hour or so to dry before the next... Lace through canvas & pre-drille...

If this were a project I was looking to do... I'd highly consider drawing up the plate pieces, getting them converted to a .dxf format and having Jamie @ Polarbear cut them out with the holes for maille. I would then start looking for a few pieces of riveted maille "cloth" to form the arms & shoulde...
