Re: Notice to those ordering from CarlzUp:

All I asked for was what was promised before I prepaid for a project. Regular communication and updates. When Jackie brought you in as a partner, you chose to step in between and try to modify what was agreed to before you ever came onto the scene. I have all the emails that laid out what was agreed...

Re: ApprenticeWorks Armory on Etsy feedback

Peter Cosgrove was discussed on the archive in 2001,2002,2003 Everything points to positive feedback. There was a time when the "Stormking" & the "Hammerlord" were THE viking helm to have. We've since evolved (perception of the community to more period appearance) though his patterns are still much ...

Re: Perfect rattan handle

I start with something similar to #1, then smoothly narrow the top a little, leave the middle part wide and smoothly taper towards the pommel. I then flute the whole thing with a round rat-tail rasp in a left rising spiral and tightly tape with grip tape.

Re: WTB horsebow.

Russ if you look at the Ebay link it is to a Tartar styled bow made of laminated wood. The only horn on it is a "flash" on the sides of the Siyahs. I agree with you that in a traditional Sinew/wood/horn laminate bow, the wood almost doesn't matter, except for the siyahs. It is fact common for many o...

Re: Notice to those ordering from CarlzUp:

Lets not resurrect the unpleasant. Its enough that Carl stepped in and was VERY rude to me after all I asked for was the regular progress updates Jackie & I agreed on before I pre-paid for the Helmet. As a result I cancelled my order and Jackie IMMEDIATELY gave me a refund in full. I would not hesit...

Re: WTB horsebow.

Russ, Everything we know now about the science of it says that the change in wood density creates a spot that does not flex or compress like the wood around it. This causes issues, never said it won't work but it is HIGHLY undesirable in the limbs. Knot in the riser? adds character. I'm not arguing ...

Re: WTB horsebow.

Vermillion,

The ebay pic isn't helping... see the knots in the wood they used? Its *DEATH* for a bow limb, even a laminated one.

Sure it isn't hand made by a master Bowyer but at least they could reject the scrap lumber, ya know?

After being sent a original pic by Yojimbo, I am sad to say that the helm Gypsy has, doesn't have the occular style I like.

That means I am still looking. Anyone have one they want to part with?

Good idea Johann, except if I do that, I'll have to re-blacken it!

This is an armour piercer for sure and will withstand what it was made for & more. Even if one chose to simply use it for an ahlspiess or as a tip for a godentag.

At the very least the project spurred me to make a socketing bick so other "Stabby, choppy, smackey" things on a pole will be forthcomming.

Auction - Lance head - Closed unsold

I recently took a commission from an archiver for a lance head. It failed to meet specs so I am auctioning it off. Here's a pic... http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/clueX4_graphics/new%20work/0625121559-1.jpg It has an expanded tapered socket made for a 1-1.25" tapered pole, and is drilled fo...

It might even be worth it to go to a rental yard and scout out a small concrete mixer to rent for a weekend. Dunno what resources you have but there are many DIY options involving some scrapwood, a washing machine motor, a wheel, and a cheap to free plastic drum.

In case anyone is wondering what this smells like... just try to pee on a decent sized fire and extinguish the coal bed.
