Re: Beeswax for Quenching ~ Pros/Cons
Ok lets get to the quenching nitty gritty. There are two factors that are of greatest import in a quench medium. Vapor point & Mass Oversimplified yes but those are the factors. If you overcome the vapor point a gass/steam jacket forms around the item causing uneven quenching & resulting in warpage....

Re: How to make a torch?
Absolutely. You'll need a holder (portable hole like a big banner holder) so it can't be knocked over. A wood pole, a piece of black pipe for the shank, some perf plate rolled into a cone and welded onto the shank. Use the cheapo pressed fireplace logs broken into briquette sized chunks for fuel. Vi...

Re: How to make a torch?
Yes, With a caveat... most places won't let you walk around with one. There's no way to secure the fuel to where it won't spread fire if/when you trip & drop it... or even accidently fling it. I did mine from a wood handle with a piece of pipe affixed to a "basket" to hold the fuel. I later added a ...

Re: WTB-old/in need of repair armor bits.
Seaan, I have a large size aircraft aluminum plackart that I got from one of Ice's scratch and dent sales. It slightly cracked when they put the center seam in it so its not been repaired or polished/strapped yet. The large size is just a little too small for my fat ass + arming cotte + maille, I th...

Charles,
After you detergent clean it... try testing the theory by adding some bronze rings. If the maille stops oxidizing and the bronze starts, you will have a definative answer.

Re: Stainless mesh rub-off
Some stainless steels begin to loose their stainless properties when heated past a certain point (as in welded). They will begin to oxidize and in some cases even rust. It may be possible to electricly passivate the maille if this is the case. Try cleaning in a strong detergent in a vibe tumbler wit...

ISO - SCA Viking occular helm
Thanks to all the folks who have bought stuff I was able to get the helm I needed for steel fighting. Was lucky enough to find an awesome sugarloaf for a price akin to theft. I want to now find a Viking Occular style helmet for an alternate SCA kit. I have around a $300 budget Does anyone have one, ...

Malkome,
Is it complete with insert, set screws & clip? Is it a right, left or straight clip?
Will this jig do a quad fletch? Almost forgot... do you have the manual/instructions for it as well?
Regards,
Grimr

Because you held the camera sideways when you took it. Use photobucket because it has a fairly robust photo editor built in that will allow you to rotate the image among other things.

24" melon.
I should add that the steel fighting helm will be for Adria combat. They don't hit full force so a helm a little smaller than what would be required for SCA is perfectly acceptable.
